The Passport 8250 device has a field-replaceable network board and up to three field-replaceable DS-1/E1 service boards.

Network board

The network board is a single-mode or multi-mode integrated dual trunk. The network board controls the Passport 8250 device and contains the communication ports.

DS-1 and E1 service boards

The Passport 8250 device can hold one, two, or three DS-1 or E1 service boards. Service boards send and receive DS-1/E1 signals and convert between ATM cells and DS-1/E1 traffic. Each service board has 16 physical DS-1/E1 ports.
