What’s the use of a high resolution image sensor when the lenses aren’t capable of providing at least the same level of resolution? If lenses that were conceived for analogue cameras are used with digital camera bodies, there is always a compromise.
For example, due to the design principle of an image sensor, light must hit it squarely. Otherwise there is a risk of losing image quality such as by cornershading in the edges of photos. Optimal results can only be obtained with nearly telecentric optics
