Find alternate subject that is in the same distance from the camera as the desired subject.
Focus on the alternate subject.
Locate it in the focus frame on the LCD monitor.
Press the shutter release button halfway.
The focus frame turns green when the alternate subject is in focus.

When q (Macro) is selected, the optical zoom is fixed to Wide (However, the digital zoom is available to change zoom position of the image).

When = (Standard) is selected, the auto-Macro function is activated (The optical zoom is fixed to Wide also in auto-Macro function. The digital zoom is available to change the zoom position of the image). When your subject is closer than approx. 40 cm (1.31 ft) from the camera, the camera automatically focuses on the closer subject.

When you have difficulty in auto focusing on a subject, try the procedures below.

You may have difficulty in auto focusing on such subjects as:Subject contrast is very weak. (blue sky, solid white wall, etc.)Dark places, black object, or subject that does not reflect light.Subject with strong reflected light, or strong backlight.Object with a fine patternRapidly moving objectsWhen a distant object and a close object are both in the focus frame.

4 While holding the shutter release button halfway, move the camera to obtain the desired composition.

The focus is locked at the point you set in Step 3 even if you recompose. (Focus lock)

5 Press the shutter release button fully.
