插座 (Hub)

一種通用串行總線裝置,為提供通用串行總線另外的連接。

插座是 USB"插入即用"結構中的主要部件。下圖顯示一個典型的插座。插座從用 戶的角度簡化了 USB 之連接性,在廉價和簡捷的基礎上提供了高性能。

插座為帶線接頭,使 USB 的多附件特性得以實現。附加點則被稱為端口。每一插座 將單個附加點轉變成多個附加點。其總結構支持多個插座的相互串聯。

插座的上游端口連接插座與主機。插座每一下游端口可與另一插座或功能裝置連接。插座能夠 檢測、附上和拆下於每一下游端口,促使電源向下游裝置的輸送。每一下游端口皆能單獨起 動、設置成全速或慢速。

一個插座由兩部份組成﹕插座控制器和插座中繼器。中繼器是由規程控制的上游端口和下游端 口之間的樞紐。它也配有重設和暫停/繼續信號的硬體支持。控制器提供接口寄存器,促成主 機間的往返通訊。插座具體狀態和控制指令允許主機設置某一插座及控制其端口。

裝置

一個執行某一功能的邏輯性或物質性實體。所述實際實體依其所涉及情況而定。在最低層次, 裝置可指單個硬體元件,例如存儲器。在較高層次,它可指執行某一特別功能的一套硬體元 件,例如通用串行總線接口裝置。在更高層次,裝置可指連接於通用串行總線的執行功能的實 體,例如數據/傳真調控解調器。裝置可能是物質的、電子的、可按址訪問的和邏輯性的。
