SAfter each use, inspect complete unit for
loose or damaged parts. Clean the unit and
decals using a damp cloth with a mild deter-
gent.
SWipeoff unit with a clean dry clot h.

CLEAN AIR FILTER

A dirty air filter decreases engine perform-
ance and increases fuel consumption and
harmful emissions. Always clean after ev ery
5hour s of operation.
1. Clean the c over and the area around it to
keep dirt from falling into the carburetor
chamber when the cover is removed.
2. Loosen bolt with a 5/16 inch (8 mm) socket
wrench.R emove air filter cover and air filter.
NOTE: To avoid creating a fire hazard or
producingharmful ev aporative emissions, do
notclean filter in gas olineor other flammable
solvent.
3. Wash the filter in s oap and water.
4. Allow filt er to dry.
5. Replac e parts.

INSPECT MUFFLER AND SPARK

ARRESTING SCREEN

WARNING : Themuffler on this prod-
uct contains chemicals known to the State of
California to cause cancer.
Asy our unit is used, carbon deposits build up
onthe muffler and spark arresting screen and
mustbe removed to av oid creating a fire haz-
ard or affecting engine performance.
For normal homeowner use, the muffler and
spark arresting screen will not require any
service. After 50 hours of use, we recom-
mend that your muffler be serviced or re-
placed by an authorized service dealer.

REPLACE SPARKPLUG

Replace the spark plug each year to ensure
the engine starts easier and runs better. In-
spect spark plugev ery 25hours of usage.
Cleanand/or replace as nec essary. Set spark
pluggap at 0.025 inch (0.6 mm). Ignition tim-
ing is fixed and nonadjustable.
1. Twist, then pull off spark plug boot.
2. Remov e spark plug from cylinder and
discard.
3. Replac e with Champion RCJ-6Y spark
plugand t ighten securely with a 3/4 inch
(19 mm) socket wrench.
4. Reins tall the spark plug boot.
SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS

REPLACING THE LINE

For unit to operate properly, the cutting line
should be replaced when line becomes worn to
less than3 inc hes in lengthfr om theedge o fthe
lineexit tunnels on each side of the cutting hea d.
1. Remove and discard worn line before
installing new line.
2. Us e only 0.115inc h(3 mm) diameter
Poulan PRO brand cut length line.
3. Inser t one end of the line through the
positioning tunnel.
4. Continue to feed line through tunnel until
line is centered (leaving equal amounts
on each side). See illustration below.

5. Inser t ends of line one at a time through
thel ine exit tunnels.
6. Pull the line and make sure the line is ex-
tendedf ully through the tunnels.

7. Corr ectly installed line will be the same
lengthon both ends .

REPLACINGT HECUTTING HEAD

1. Align hole in the dust c up with the hole in
the side of the gearbox by rotating the
dust cup.
2. Insert a small screwdriver into aligned
holes. This will keep the shaft from turning
whileremov ing and installing trimmer head.
