AIR FILTER
CAUTION: Do not clean filter in gasoline
orother flammable solvent to avoid creating
afire hazard or producing harmful evapora-
tive emissions.
A dirty air filter decreases engine perform-
ance and increases fuel consumption and
harmfulemissions. Always clean after every
5 hours of operation.
Cleaning the air filter:
SClean the cover and the areaaround it to
keepdirt and sawdust from falling into the
carburetor chamber when the cover is re-
moved.
SRemove the parts as illustrated.
SWash the filter in soap and water.
SReplace parts.
BAR MAINTENANCE
Ifyour saw cuts to one side, has to be forced
throughthe cut, or bee n run with an imp rop-
er amount of bar lubrication it may be nec-
essary to service your bar. A worn bar w ill
damage your chain and make cutting
difficult.
Replaceyour bar if bent or the inside rails of
the bar are worn.
SClean the oil holes after each 5 hours of
operation
SRemovesawdust from bar groove period-
ically with a wire or putty knife.

CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTS
Carburetoradjustment is critical and if done
improperly can permanently damage your
unit.We recommend you contact anAutho-
rized Service Dealer for adjustments.
IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT:Turn the Idle
Speed Screw clockwise until it stops. Now
turn the screw counterclockwise 4-1/2
turns. This should allow the engine to run
without the chain turning. If the chain moves
at idle speed, do not use your unit. Contact
an Authorized Service Dealer. Idle speed is
correct when engine runs without stalling
and chain does not turn.
MIXTURE ADJUSTMENTS: If your carbu-
retor includes limiter caps (Plastic caps on
themixture screws) , do not force the screws
beyondthe stops of the limiter caps or dam-
age will occur. Do not remove these caps.
Small adjustments will affect your unit. Do
not adjust more than 1/16th turn without
checking performance.
CHAIN SHARPENING
Chainsharpening is a complicate d task that
requires special tools. We recommended
yourefer chain sharpening to a professional
chain sharpener
IGNITION TIMING
Ignition timing is fixed and nonadjustable.
SPARK PLUG
Replacethe spark plug yearly. Gap to .025”.
STORAGE
WARNING: Stop engine and allow to
cool, and secure the unit before storing or
transporting in a vehicle. Store unit and fuel
in an area where fuel vapors cannot reach
sparks or open flames from water heaters,
electric motors or switches, furnaces, etc.
Store unit with all guards in place. Position
sothat any sharp obje ct cannot accidentally
causeinjury to passersby. Store the unit out
of reach of children.
SBeforestoring, drainall fuel from the unit.
Startengine and allow to run until it stops.
SCleanthe unit be fore storing. Pay particu-
larattention to the air intake area, keeping
itfree of debris. Use a mild detergent and
sponge to clean the plastic surfaces.
SDo not store the unit or fuel in a closed
area where fuel vapors can reach sparks
or an open flame from hot water heaters,
electric motors or switches, furnaces, etc.
SStorein a dry area out of reach of children.
CAUTION: It is important to prevent gum
deposits from forming in essent ial fuel sys-
tem parts such as the carburetor, fuel filter,
fuel hose, or fuel tank during storage. Alco-
hol blended fuels (called gasohol or using
ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture
which leads to fuel mixture separation and
formation of acids during storage. A cidic gas
can damage the engine.
