Dear Brain Gamers,
I am delighted that you are one of the mil lions of
people who want to keep their minds s harp and
have fun doing it. After two decad es studying how
we can improve memory and prevent A lzheimer’s
disease, I have found there is a lot we can d o.
Genetics accounts for only ab out a third of what
determines our health as we age – th at means that
simple, everyday lifestyle c hoices have a major im-
pact on our memory and brai n fitness. My books,
The Memory Bible, The Memo ry Prescription, and
The Longevity Bible, detail my s trategies – physical
and mental exercise, stress re duction techniques,
the Healthy Brain Diet, and mor e – to boost your
brain power and live longer, better. However, you
are well on your way to boosting your brai n power
by playing Brain Games 2.
Brain Games 2 will teach you my basi c memory
technique – Look, Snap, Connec t – and help you
perfect these strategie s. Besides being fun to
play, Brain Games 2 will help your memor y abilities
improve almost immediately. You will also “cro ss-
train” your brain with left-bra in (verbal memory an d
logical skills – e.g., writing let ters) and right-brain
(visual memory and ment al skills – e.g., reading
maps) games. Brain Game s 2 lets you monitor
your progress, while settin g and increasing a pace
that works for your memory abil ity as you train your
brain and gauge your improveme nt.
You can use Look, Snap, Connect for ever yday
memory tasks (lists, e rrands, names and face s)
and build on this basic techniqu e to become a
memory champion. First m aster the basic skill:
Look – learn to focus your attenti on on the new
information you wish to remembe r. Slow down,
take a deep breath, and ignore dis tractions.
S nap – create a mental sna pshot or visual
image in your mind’s eye of what you want to
remember. Make it personal and gi ve it detail to
help fix it into your memory.
C onnect – link up your ment al snapshots in
you mind’s eye. This association step he lps put
the new memories into context and h elps you
retrieve them later when you need th em.
To remember a list of errands, create a s tory using
Look, Snap, Connect: You need to stop at th e
store to get some aspirin and a hair b rush before
you meet your sister. In your mind’s eye, you see
your sister taking some aspir in and then brushing
her hair.
For learning and recalling na mes and faces, think
up a Name Snap and a Face Snap – then Con nect
these mental pictures or Sna ps together. Thinking
of a visual image or Snap for a name ca n be easy:
See a house for Mr. House, a gold coin for Ms .
Gold, or a carnival worker for Mrs . Carney. For
more complex names, combine v isual words that
sound like the name – see Mr. Domachow eati ng
chicken chow mein under a dome. For a fa ce
snap, look for a distinguishing fe ature and then

Econnect it to the name snap. If Mrs. Wa shing-
ton has prominent lips, see her k issing George
Washington on the lips. At first it may se em a bit
wacky; however, you’ll not only have fun but you’ll
improve your everyday memory sk ills. Remem-
bering names and faces is the m ost common
memory complaint.
Our research group at UCL A has studied the ef-
fectiveness of Look, Snap, Conn ect, along with
other lifestyle strategie s that improve memory
and brain health. We found that af ter only two
weeks, these techniques have a sig nificant effect
on memory performanc e scores and dramatica lly
increase brain efficien cy. The more you play Brain
Games 2, the better you’ll get at it and the m ore
brain power you’ll have.
