Hvis HDMI-enheten (mottaker, TV) ikke er kompatible med komprimerte formater (Dolby digital, DTS), går lydsignalet ut som PCM.

De sekundære og effektkildene vil ikke være tilgjengelig på vanlige DVD-plater.

Noen Blu-ray-plater inneholder ikke sekundært eller effektspor.

Dette digitale utgangsoppsettet påvirker ikke det analoge (L/R) lydsignalet, eller HDMI-signalet til TV- apparatet. Det påvirker det optiske lydsignalet, og lyd over HDMI når spilleren er tilkoblet en receiver.

Når spilleren sender ut en HD lydstrøm (Dolby TrueHD eller DTS-HD Master Audio) fra den optiske utgangen til en receiver med HDMI 1.3, vil du kun høre et 2 kanals PCM-signal.

Hvis du skal spille MPEG-lydspor, lydsignal-utganger PCM uavhengig av valget for den digitale utgangen (PCM eller Bitstream).
