Connecting to an Audio Device
Using an Optical (Digital) or Audio (Analog) Cable or Headphone Connection

DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL)

When a Digital Audio System is conn ected to the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) j ack, decrease the volume
of both the TV and the system.

5.1 CH (channel) audio is available when the TV is c onnected to an external devic e supporting 5.1 CH.

When the receiver amplifier o r DVD home theater is set to on, you can hear so und output from the TV’s optical
jack. When the TV is receiving a DT V signal, the TV will send 5.1 CH sound to the amp lifier or DVD home
theater. When the source is a digital compon ent such as a DVD / Blu-ray player / cable b ox / STB (Set-Top-
Box) satellite receiver and is connec ted to the TV via HDMI, only 2 CH audio w ill be heard from the amplifi er or
DVD home theater. If you want to hear 5.1 CH audio, connect the digital au dio out jack from your DVD / Blu-ray
player / cable box / STB satellite receiver d irectly to an amplifier or hom e theater.
HEADPHONE

: You can connect your headphones to the head phones output on your set. While th e
headphones are connected, the sound from the built-in speakers will be disabled.

Sound function may be restricted wh en connecting headphone s to the TV.

Headphone volume and TV volum e are adjusted separately.
AUDIO OUT: Connects to the audio input jacks on your a mplifier/home theater.

When connecting, use the appropr iate connector.

When an audio amplifier is con nected to the AUDIO OUT jacks: Decrea se the volume of the TV and adjust th e
volume level with the amplifier’s volume c ontrol.
