Amennyiben ugyanazt a képet hosszabb ideig (12 óránál tovább) jelenítjük meg, kis feszültségkülönbség jöhet létre egy-egy pixelben a folyadékkristályt működtető két elektróda közt. Az elektródák közti feszültségkülönbség idővel egyre növekszik, ami elferdíti a folyadékkristályt. Ez azzal jár, hogy a minta változásakor az előző kép is látható még.

Hogy ezt megelőzzük, a halmozódó feszültségkülönbséget csökkenteni kell.
