Blu-ray дискът е нов и развиващ се формат. Затова са възможни проблеми със съвместимостта на дисковете и съществуващите формати за дискове. Не всички дискове са съвместими и не всеки диск ще се възпроизвежда.

Устройството не може да възпроизвежда съдържание записано на CD-R/-RW и DVD- RW/-R, като divx, avi, mpg, mov, wma.
