――Fréquence horizontale

Un cycle horizontal désigne la durée nécessaire pour balayer une seule ligne de la gauche vers la droite de l'écran. Le nombre réciproque d'un cycle horizontal est désigné sous le nom de fréquence horizontale. La fréquence horizontale est mesurée en kHz.

――Fréquence verticale

La répétition de la même image des dizaines de fois par seconde permet de visualiser des images naturelles. Cette fréquence de répétition s'appelle la « fréquence verticale » ou « fréquence de rafraîchissement » et est mesurée en Hz.
