SAR-test udføres i almindelige brugssituationer, hvor telefonen sender med det højest tilladte effektniveau på alle de afprøvede frekvensbånd. Selvom SAR måles ved det højest godkendte effektniveau, kan telefonens faktiske SAR-niveau ligge betydeligt under maksimumsværdien. Dette skyldes, at telefonen er udviklet til at kunne bruge flere effektniveauer, så telefonen kun bruger den effekt, der er nødvendig for at oprette forbindelse til nettet. Jo tættere du er på en sendestation, jo lavere er telefonens udgangseffekt.
