Ebben az üzemmódban a fényképezőgép felismeri a fényképezési viszonyokat, és automatikusan beállítja a megvilágításban szerepet játszó tényezőket, köztük a zársebességet, a rekesznyílás értéket, a fénymérést és a fehéregyensúlyt. •Amennyiben a fényképezőgép nem észlel megfelelő tematikus üzemmódot, akkor a üzemmód alapértelmezett beállításait használja.

•Még ha arcot érzékel is a fényképezőgép, lehet, hogy nem választja ki a Portré üzemmódot. Ez a téma helyzetétől és a megvilágítástól függ.

•Ebben az üzemmódban a megfelelő módok kiválasztásakor a beállítások folyamatos változtatása miatt a fényképezőgép akkumulátora gyorsabban merül.
