Cleaning the CD pickup lens

Poor performance during CD playbac k (skipping or jumping) can be caused by a dirty
or contaminated CD laser pickup lens, in this case cleaning may be required. Clean
the lens gently with a dry cot ton swab taking care not to touch the lens with your fin-
gers.

Cleaning the cabinet

Care of compact discs

Compact discs are fair ly resistant to damage, however mistracking can occu r due to
an accumulation of dirt on the disc surface. Foll ow the guidelines below for maximum
enjoyment from your CD collection and player.
zDo not write on either side of the disc, par ticularly the non-label side from which
signals are read. Do not mark this surface.
zKeep your discs awa y from direct sunlight, heat, and excessive moisture.
zAlways hold the CDs by the edges. Fingerprints, dirt, or water on the CDs can
cause noise or mistrac king. If a CD is dirty or does not play properly, clean it with a
soft, dry cloth, wiping straight out from the center, along the radius.

Error messages

Periodically wipe the cabinet with a soft cloth and a diluted soap solution, then with a
dry cloth.
Caution:
zDo not use chemicals for cleaning (gasoline, paint thinner, etc.). It may damage the
cabinet finish.
zDo not apply oil to the inside of the unit. It may cause malfunctions.
