Load Impedance

Maximum SPL capability, output clipping level, and dynamic range vary with the input load impedance of the preamplifier to which you connect the microphone. Shure recom- mends a minimum input load impedance of 1000 Ω. Most modern microphone preampli- fiers meet this requirement. Higher impedance results in better performance for these specifications.

Power Requirements

This microphone requires phantom power and performs best with a 48 Vdc supply (IEC- 61938). However, it will operate with slightly decreased headroom and sensitivity with supplies as low as 11 Vdc.

Most modern mixers provide phantom power. You must use a balanced microphone cable: XLR-to-XLR or XLR-to-TRS.

Shure BETA 98AMP manual Load Impedance, Power Requirements, Accessories and Parts

BETA 98AMP specifications

The Shure BETA 98AMP is a professional-grade microphone renowned for its exceptional audio quality and versatile application. This small-diaphragm condenser microphone is primarily designed for instruments, particularly percussion, drums, and brass, but it also excels in various other live sound scenarios.

One of the standout features of the BETA 98AMP is its uniform cardioid pickup pattern. This technology allows the microphone to capture sound from the intended source while effectively rejecting unwanted noise from the sides and rear. This characteristic makes it an excellent choice for live performances where background noise can be problematic. The cardioid pattern ensures clarity and focus on the sound source, providing a clean and articulate audio representation.

The BETA 98AMP incorporates a high-performance condenser element that delivers a wide frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz. This frequency range enables the microphone to capture the nuances and subtleties of various instruments, providing detailed and vibrant sound reproduction. The microphone’s low self-noise level also ensures that recordings retain their purity without unwanted artifacts, making it suitable for studio applications as well.

Another noteworthy feature of the BETA 98AMP is its lightweight and compact design. The microphone is easy to position and mount, especially in tight situations, thanks to its flexible gooseneck clip. This allows the microphone to be attached securely to a variety of instruments such as snares, toms, or brass instruments at the perfect angle for optimal sound capture.

The microphone also includes a built-in preamplifier, indicated by the "AMP" in its name, providing an additional level of gain for excellent performance without the need for external power sources. This is particularly advantageous for live sound engineers and musicians who prefer a straightforward setup process during performances.

Overall, the Shure BETA 98AMP combines advanced microphone technologies with a robust design, making it a top choice for audio professionals seeking reliability and performance. Whether used in a live setting or for studio recording, the BETA 98AMP stands out as an impeccable tool for achieving pristine audio capture in various applications.
