Safety Rules for Drills
Wear e ar pr otector s wit h imp act d rills.
Exposure to noise can cause hearing loss.
Use auxil iary han dles su pplied w ith the
tool. Loss of cont rol c an c ause person al
injury.
Hold po wer to ols by insula ted gr ipping
surfaces when pe rforming an op eration
wher e t he cut ting t ools ma y cont act
hidden wiring. Contact with a “live” wire will
make exposed metal parts of the tool “live”
and shock the operator.
Use clam ps o r o ther pr actic al way to
secure and s upport the workpiece to a
stable platform. Holding the work by hand
or agai nst you r body is unstable and may
lead to loss of control.
Do not drill, fasten or break into existing
walls or other blind areas where electrical
wiri ng ma y exi st. If thi s sit uat ion is
unavoidable, disconnect all fu ses or circuit
breakers feeding this worksite.
Alwa ys we ar s afe ty go ggl es or eye
protection when using this t ool. Use a
dust mask or re spirator fo r applicati ons
which generate dust.
Use thick cushioned gloves and limit the
exposu re t ime by t aking freq uent rest
periods. Vibration caused by hamme r-drill
action may b e har mful t o you r hand s and
arms.
Secure the material being drilled. Never
hold i t i n your h and or a cros s leg s.
Unstable support can cau se the drill bit to
bind causing loss of control and injury.
Never leave the trigger locked "ON".
Before plugging the tool in, check that the
trigger lock is "OFF". Accidental start-ups
could cause injury.
Position the cord clear of rotating bit. Do
not w rap the c ord around your arm or
wrist. If you lose control and have the cord
wrapped aroun d yo ur ar m or wris t it may
entrap you and cause injury.
Position y ourself to avoid being caught
between the tool or side handle and walls
or posts. Should the bit become bound or
jammed in the work, the reaction torque of
the tool could crush your hand or leg.
If the bit be com es bo und in the
work pie ce, r ele ase the t rig ger
immed iate ly, reve rse the di rect ion of
rotation and slowly squeeze the trigger to
back out t he b it. Be ready for a strong
reaction torqu e. The drill body will tend to
twist in the opposite direction as the drill bit is
rotating.
Do not grasp the tool or place your hands
too close to the s pinning chuck o r drill
bit. Your hand may be lacerated.
Do not use the switch "Lock-ON" feature
in situations where drill bit binding is
likely. (For example: just before the bit is
read y t o b reak t hrou gh the ma teri al,
anytime when using a "Hole Saw", auger
bits........ etc.) When the bit binds, the drill's
body wi ll twis t o r k ick- back in op posi te
direction and the release of the trigger "Lock-
ON" may be difficult.
Be aware of the l ocation and s etting of
the switch "Lock-ON" button. If the switch
is locked "O N" during the use, be ready for
emergency situations to switch it "OFF", by
first pul ling the trig ger then imm ediat ely
releasing it without pressing the "Lock-ON"
button.
When installing a drill bit, insert the shank
of t he bit we ll with in the ja ws of the
chuc k. I f the bi t i s not in ser ted de ep
enough, the grip of the jaws over the bit is
reduced and the loss of control is increased.
Do n ot use dul l o r d amage d b its and
accessories. Dull or damaged bits have a
greater tendency to bind in the workpiece.
When removing the bit from the tool avoid
cont act wi th ski n and use p rope r
protective gloves when grasping the bit
or accessory. Accessories may be hot after
prolonged use.
Check to see that keys and adjusting
wren ches ar e r emov ed from t he dril l
before switching the tool "ON". Keys or
wrenc hes ca n f ly away at hi gh vel ocit y
striking you or a bystander.
Do not run the drill while carrying it at
your side. A spinning drill bit could become
entangled with clothing and injury may result.
