充電式電池で使う O

初めてお使いになるときは、充電式電池を 充電してください。

充電式電池はBP-DM10（別売り）または BP-DM20（別売り）をお使いください。使 いかたは同じですが、充電時間、持続時間 が違いますので、お持ちの充電式電池を確 かめてお使いください。

1 電池入れのふたを開ける。

2 「SONY」の文字の向きがふたの裏 側の絵と同じになるように充電式電 池を入れ、ふたを閉める。3 下の絵のように付属のACパワーアダ プターをつなぎ、約2時間 (BP-DM10の場合）または約3時間 (BP-DM20の 場合）充電する。充電中は「CHG」が出ます。（すでに充電が完了している場合は、 「CHG」と が点滅します。）

DC IN 4.5 Vへ

ACパワー アダプター （付属）電源コンセントへ4 充電し終わって「CHG」が消えた ら、ACパワーアダプターをはず す。充電の目安電池が消耗すると が表示され、その後 「Lo batt」が表示されます。電池を充電 してください。充電式電池を長持ちさせるために、電池は 消耗してから充電してください。

ご注意

•充電時間は充電式電池の使用状態により異なり

ます。

•初めて充電するときや長時間使用しなかった後 では、充電しても通常の持続時間より短いこと があります。何回か充放電をすると通常の状態 に戻ります。

•充電後、常温で使える時間の半分くらいで電池 がなくなってしまうときは、新しい充電式電池

BP-DM20またはBP-DM10と交換してくださ

い。これ以外の充電式電池（単3形充電式電池な ど）は使えません。

乾電池で使う P

乾電池ケースを使う Q

本体内の充電式電池または乾電池とともに 付属の乾電池ケースを使うと、より長時 間、演奏を楽しむことができます。本体内 の充電式電池または乾電池と、乾電池ケー ス内の乾電池は同時に消耗していきます。

お手入れ

レンズの汚れはレンズクリーニングキットKK-DM1(別売 り）を使ってクリーニングしてください。レンズキャビネットの汚れは

柔らかい布で空ぶきします。汚れがひどい ときは、うすい中性洗剤溶液でしめらせた 布でふいてください。シンナー、ベンジ ン、アルコールなどは表面の仕上げをいた めますので使わないでください。

故障かな？と思ったら

サービス窓口にご相談になる前にもう１度 チェックしてみてください。それでも具合 が悪いときはお買い上げ店またはソニーサ ービス窓口にご相談ください。演奏が始まらない。または、ディ スクを入れても「no dlSC」が 出る。

bディスクが汚れている、または大きな傷が ある。大きな傷がある場合は、ディスクを 取り換える。

bディスクのラベル面を上にして入れる。

zDisc Playing

Playing a CD right away! A

If you want to play a CD right now, choose to use your player on house current. Other choices are the following three: rechargeable battery, dry batteries (see "Power Sources") and car battery.

1 Make connections.

Connect the supplied headphones with remote control to the PHONES/REMOTE jack firmly. Also connect the supplied AC power adaptor to the DC IN 4.5 V jack of your player and a wall outlet. If the AC power adaptor does not fit the wall outlet, use the AC plug adaptor.

2 Place a CD.1Slide OPEN to open the lid.2Fit the CD to the pivot with the label side up.3 Play a CD.1Press ^.2Adjust the volume. To stop play, press p.

Set the VOL (volume) control on the remote control to MAX. Then adjust the volume on the player to the level that you want to be the maximum for adjusting the volume with the remote control.

On display

•When you press ^ (when RESUME is set to OFF), the total number of the tracks in the CD and the total playing time appear for 2 seconds.

•During play, the track number and the elapsed playing time of the current track appear.

•Between the tracks, the time to the beginning of the next track will appear with the “–” indication.

•During pause, the elapsed playing time of the current point flashes.Notes on Handling CDs•To keep the CD clean, handle it by its edge.Do not touch the surface.•Do not stick paper or tape onto the CD.

•Do not expose the CD to direct sunlight or heat sources such as hot air ducts. Do not leave the CD in a car parked in direct sunlight.

Playing tracks repeatedly (Repeat Play) B

You can play track repeatedly in normal, INTRO PGM, shuffle or RMS (Random Music Sensor) play modes. Repeat all the tracks or only one track.

To repeat all the tracksPress REPEAT/ENTER during play. “REPEAT” appears.To cancel repeat play, press REPEAT/ENTER again.To repeat a single track1Press REPEAT/ENTER while the track you want to repeat is playing.“REPEAT” appears.2Press PLAY MODE repeatedly until “1” appears.To repeat another track, press =or +.

Playing only the tracks you want (INTRO PGM play) C

You can choose and play your favorite tracks by scanning through the beginning of each track in a CD.

1 During play, press PLAY MODE repeatedly until “INTRO PGM”flashes.2 Press ^to start scanning.

The player plays about the first 15 seconds of each track and “INTRO PGM” flashes faster.

3 Press REPEAT/ENTER while the track you want is playing. To skip the track, press +or just wait for the next track.

When you go through the CD, “INTRO PGM” stops flashing and the tracks you chose play automatically.

To finish programming before hearing through the CD, press ^. The selected tracks are played.

To cancel INTRO PGM play, press PLAY MODE until no play mode is indicated in the display.

Playing tracks in random order (Shuffle Play) D

You can play the tracks on a CD in random order.During play, press PLAY MODE repeatedly, until “SHUFFLE” appears.The tracks play in random order.

To cancel shuffle play, press PLAY MODE repeatedly until no play mode is indicated in the display.

Playing tracks in the order you want (RMS play) E

You can program up to 22nd tracks to play in any order you choose.1 During play, press PLAY MODE repeatedly until “RMS” flashes.2 Press =or +to choose a track. The track number and the playing order appear.3 Press REPEAT/ENTER to program the track.4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 to program the remaining tracks.5 Press ^.“RMS” stops flashing and the tracks you chose play in the order you specified.To cancel RMS play, press PLAY MODE until “RMS” disappears.

To check the programDuring programming:Press REPEAT/ENTER before step 5. During RMS play:Press PLAY MODE repeatedly until “RMS” flashes, then press REPEAT/ENTER.

Each time you press the button, the track numbers appear in the order you specified.

Using other functions

To enjoy more powerful bass sound

The ESP (Electronic Shock Protection) function prevents the sound from skipping by using a buffer memory that stores music data for approx. 10 seconds. Use this function when listening during a walk or playing in a car.

You can lock your player against any accidental operations. (You can still operate the unit with the remote control.)

The AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiter System) function keeps down the maximum volume to protect your ears.

Set AVLS to LIMIT.The AVLS indication appears.To resume playing from the point you stopped the CD (Resume Play) J

Normally, every time you stop and play, playing starts from the beginning of the CD. The resume play function, however, lets you listen to from the point at which you last turned off the player.

Set RESUME to ON.To cancel resume play, set RESUME to OFF.To turn off the beepYou can turn off the beep that sounds as you operate your player.

Disconnect the power source (AC power adaptor, rechargeable battery or alkaline batteries). While you press and hold down p on the main unit, connect the power source again. To make the beep sound again, disconnect the power source, and then connect it without pressing p.

Connecting to other stereo equipment K

You can listen to the CD through other stereo equipment, or record a CD on a cassette tape or a MiniDisc. Refer to the instruction manual of the other equipment for details. Before making connections, turn off each piece of equipment.

When you connect the player to a stereo system, cassette recorder, radio cassette recorder, etc., use the connecting cord.

Note

When you use a connecting cord, the Digital MEGA BASS function will be disabled.

When you connect the player to a MiniDisc recorder, DAT deck, etc., use the optical digital connecting cord.

Recording with optical digital connection

Record a CD on a MiniDisc, DAT, etc., according to the following procedure.

1 Press ^on the player to start play.

2 Press ^again to pause.

3 Press =/+to select the track you want to record.

4 Press r(record) on the MiniDisc recorder, DAT recorder, etc.

5 Press ^on the player to release pause.

Notes

•Connect the optical digital connecting cord while the player is in stop mode.

If you make connection just after stopping the player, optical signals may not be output.

•If you record without pausing the player, some CD may have problem with recording the first track number correctly.

•When you use digital equipment with this unit, use the AC power adaptor. If you use a rechargeable battery or alkaline batteries, the optical digital signal will not be output from the unit. (Un expected phenomena may occur, for instance, you cannot record a CD on connected equipment.)

•MEGA BASS system works on output from the PHONES/REMOTE jack, but does not work on optical digital output from the OPTICAL (DIGITAL)/LINE OUT jack.

•When you use an optical digital connecting cord, the ESP function will be disabled.

Playing a CD in a car L

You can use your player in a car.

To connect your player to a car cassette deck, you need the following accessories:

•Mount kit CPM-450PC/CPM-300PC (Mount plate + Car battery cord + Car connecting pack)

or

•Car battery cord DCC-E245 and Car connecting pack CPA-8/CPA-9Refer to the instruction manual of each accessory for details.When you use the mount kit (CPM- 450PC or the equivalent)

Attach the car mount adaptor supplied to the mount plate before installing the player.

Switched ignition function

With this feature, your player stops automatically when you turn off the engine of the car. (This function is not possible with some cars depending on the model.)

Using the supplied remote control M

You can use the remote control as the wired remote control.

When you are not using the remote control, slide HOLD in the direction of the arrow. To unlock, slide HOLD back.

Using rechargeable battery O

Charge the rechargeable battery before using it for the first time.

You can use either BP-DM10 or BP-DM20 rechargeable battery for this unit. You can use them in the same way, but their charging time and battery life are different. check the model number of your rechargeable battery before using.

1 Open the lid of the battery compartment.

2 Insert the rechargeable battery so that the word “SONY” is facing the same direction as iillustrated inside the lid, and close the lid.

3 Connect the AC power adaptor.

The indication “CHG” lights up. Charge for about 2 hours (for BP-DM10) or 3 hours (for BP-DM20).

charged, “CHG” and “ flash.)

4 When fully charged, “CHG” disappears. Disconnect the AC power adaptor.When to charge the battery

When the battery becomes weak, indication appears in the display. If the battery is used up, “Lo batt” appears in the display. Charge the rechargeable battery. To keep the original battery capacity for a long time, recharge the battery when he battery is used up (discharged).

Notes

•Charging time varies depending on how the rechargeable battery is used.

•If the battery is new or has not been used for a long time, it may not be charged completely until you charge and discharge it several times.

•If the battery life becomes shoreter by about half, replace it with Sony BP-DM10 or BP-DM20 rechargeable battery. Do not use any other rechargeable battery (R6 type rechargeable battery, etc.).

Using dry batteries P

1 Open the lid of the battery compartment.

2 Insert two LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries by matching the ‘and ’to the diagram inside the battery compartment and close the lid.

When to replace the dry batteries

When the battery becomes weak, indication appears in the display. If the battery is used up, “Lo batt” appears in the display.Replace all the batteries with new ones.

Notes

•Do not charge the dry batteries.

•Do not mix new batteries with old ones.

•Do not use different types of batteries together. •Do not use manganese batteries for this unit. •When the batteries are not to be used for a long

time, remove them.

Using the battery case Q

You can use the unit for longer time by using the battery case, in addition to the rechargeable battery or batteries in the battery compartment of the unit. Batteries in the battery case and the rechargeable battery or batteries in the battery compartment are consumed together.

1 Hook the battery case onto the player and fasten the screw.2 Open the lid of the battery case.

3 Insert two LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries by matching the ‘and ’to the diagram inside the battery compartment and close the lid.
