Communication protocol

The communication is based on 1 byte unit. When the computer has transmitted 1 byte, it will wait for a response from the VCR, then send the next.

The response from the VCR consists of 1 byte or more (for example 6 bytes like the counter value).

Note

The commands depend on the VCR which you are going to use. Even if you send the commands which are not provided with your VCR, they do not function.

The received/transmitted (RXD/TXD) signal layout is indicated as seen from the VCR side.

Notes on using the RS-232C

To initiate command operation, send TL TABLE ON (F6H).

The VCR will responde with ACK (0AH).

The VCR will receive commands until you send TL TABLE OFF (F7H) to end command operations.

Notes on using the RS-485

If the address set using the DIP switches is not correct, the VCR will not operate.

When a group number is set, if it does not match the group number of the VCR, the VCR will not operate.

VCR Control Commands

The following commands are completed in 1 byte. The VCR will respond with ACK (0AH). Confirm that ACK (0AH) is returned before sending the next command.

POWER ON/OFF (7BH)

Turns on or off the VCR.

PLAY (3AH)

Plays back a tape.

STILL/PAUSE (4FH)

Pauses tape.

When this command is sent while recording, the VCR enters recording pause mode

STOP (3FH)

Stops tape.

FF (ABH)

Fast forwards the tape.

When this command is sent while playing, the VCR enters playback in fast-forward mode.

During pause, the VCR plays back still picture. During alarm search/scan or date/time search, the VCR switches to forward search/scan.

REW (ACH)

Rewinds the tape.

When this command is sent while playing, the VCR enters playback in reverse.

During pause, the VCR plays back still picture in reverse.

During alarm search/scan or date/time search, the VCR switches to reverse search/scan.

REV PLAY (4AH)

Plays back a tape in reverse at normal speed.

TIMER ON/OFF (60H)

Switches on/off timer recording.

SECURITY LOCK ON (69H)

Switches on security lock.

SECURITY LOCK OFF (7AH)

Switches off security lock.
