Thank you for purchasing the Sony WM-GX654/GX652 Radio Cassette- Corder.Some features are:•You can enjoy low bass sounds by the powerful earphone.

•You can choose from 2 different emphasizing tones: MB (MEGA BASS) and GRV (GROOVE) to adjust to your favorite sound. •LCD menu function that lets you select and switch functions in the display window of the main unit. •Auto Memory Scanning function that lets you store and recall up to 16 stations for FM and 8 stations

for AM automatically.

•AMS (Automatic Music Sensor) function that searches the beginning of the current and 2 previous tracks, and succeeding 3 tracks at high speed.

Preparing a Power Source

Choose one of the three power sources below; dry battery, rechargeable battery, and mains.

Dry Battery (see Fig. A-a)1Attach the supplied battery case.

2Open the battery compartment lid, and insert an R6 (size AA) dry battery (not supplied) like the illustration in this manual.

Note

•The battery life may shorten depending on the operation of the unit.

For maximum performance we recommend that you use an alkaline battery.

Notes

•Do not charge a dry battery.

•When you do not use the Walkman for a long time, remove the battery to avoid any damage caused by battery leakage and subsequent corrosion.

•When the battery becomes weak, the Walkman may not operate normally. Replace the battery with a new one.

Rechargeable Battery (see Fig. A-c)

1Insert the rechargeable battery (NC-6WM) into the charger with correct polarity.

Notes

•Do not tear off the film on the rechargeable battery.

•Use the Sony NC-6WM rechargeable battery only with the supplied battery charger or with the separately sold battery charger for Sony NC-6WM.

•Remove the charger unit from the wall outlet as soon as possible after the rechargeable battery has been charged. Overcharging may damage the rechargeable battery.

•The battery charger and the rechargeable battery may become warm during charging, but it is not a problem.

•Be sure not to short-circuit the battery. When you carry it with you, use the supplied carrying case. If you do not use the carrying case, do not carry with other metallic objects such as keys in your pocket.

House Current (mains) (see Fig. A-e)

Remove the rechargeable battery if inserted and attach the battery case. Connect the AC power adaptor AC-E15HG (not supplied) to the DC IN 1.5 V of the battery case and to the mains. Do not use any other AC power adaptor.

Position the earphones cord through the guides on the supplied clip as shown. Fasten the clip to your clothes.

Releasing HOLD

(see Fig. C)

The HOLD function locks the Walkman to prevent from operating when you accidentally press a button. If the Walkman is locked, unlock it before operating.

Playing a Tape

(see Fig. D-a)

The Auto Tape Selector automatically selects the tape (normal (TYPE I), CrO2 (TYPE II), or metal (TYPE IV)) for playback.

If the earphones do not fit to your ears or the sound is unbalanced, turn round the earphones a little to fit to your ears firmly.

Notes on AMS

•The beeps differ in relation to the track number being searched. When finding the beginning of the next 3 tracks during AMS operations, beeps “• – – –” (beep followed by three long beeps) are emitted repeatedly. Likewise, when finding the beginning of the previous 2 tracks, beeps “•• – – –” are emitted repeatedly. While the remaining tracks are reduced, the number of long beeps are reduced accordingly.

•To operate the AMS, you need a blank of 4 seconds or longer between the tracks. Therefore, if there is noise between the tracks, this function will not detect the blank and will not operate. Likewise, if the recording level is moderately low within a track, this function may inaccurately operate.

Press MENU repeatedly in the playback and stop mode to set the cursor to MODE (PB) in the display. Then press SET to select the desired mode.

Press MENU repeatedly in the playback or stop mode to set the cursor to aNR (PB) (Dolby noise reduction) in the display. Then press SET to show “ON”.

Recording

(see Fig. E-a)

You can record radio programmes from the built-in radio, or record with the supplied microphone. In either case, use a new or fully charged battery.

1 Insert a normal (TYPE I) tape with the side you want to record facing the tape holder. When you open the cassette holder, “FWD” will appear in the display window.

If “REV” is displayed, open and close the cassette holder so that “FWD” appears.

2 Select a recording source:To record from the radio

Tune in to a station you want to record (see “Listening to the Radio”). When recording FM programmes, make sure the earphones are plugged in as they serve as an aerial.

To record with the microphone

Connect the supplied microphone to the MIC (PLUG IN POWER) jack. You can use the supplied microphone stand as illustrated (see Fig. E-b).

Set the ISS (Interference Suppress Switch) to the position that reduces noise the most.

To prevent a tape from being accidentally recorded over (see Fig. E-c)

Break off the tabs from side A and/ or B. To reuse the tape for recording, cover the tab hole with adhesive tape.

Notes

•Do not use a CrO2 (TYPE II) or metal (TYPE IV) tape, otherwise the sound may be distorted when you play back the tape, or the previous recording may not be erased completely.

•Do not connect or disconnect the headphones to 2REMOTE while recording from the radio. The recording condition may change abruptly, or noise may be recorded.

•When recording with the microphone, do not place it near a lamp cord or a fluorescent lamp to avoid noise interference.

•If a howling effect occurs, turn down the volume.

•While recording, only the p(stop) operation functions.

•MB/GRV mode does not affect recording.

•During recording, the LCD menu function is inoperable.

Alcune caratteristiche sono: •Possibilità di ascoltare suoni deibassi a basso volume con gli auricolari potenti.

•Possibilità di scegliere tra due diversi tipi di enfatizzazione: MB (MEGA BASS) e GRV (GROOVE) per ottenere il suono preferito.

•Funzione di menu LCD che permette di selezionare e commutare funzioni sul display dell’apparecchio.

•Funzione di ricerca con memorizzazione automatica che permette di memorizzare e richiamare fino a 16 stazioni FM e 8 stazioni AM automaticamente.

•Funzione AMS (sensore musicale automatico) che cerca l’inizio del brano attuale e dei 2 brani precedenti o dei 3 brani successivi ad alta velocità.

Preparazione della fonte di alimentazione

Scegliere una delle tre seguenti fonti di alimentazione: pila a secco, pila ricaricabile e corrente domestica.

Pila a secco(vedere la fig. A-a)1Applicare il portapila in dotazione.

2Aprire il coperchio del comparto pila e inserire una pila a secco tipo R6 (formato AA) (non in dotazione) come nell’illustrazione del manuale.

Nota

•La durata della pila può essere minore a seconda del modo di impiego dell’apparecchio.

Per il massimo delle prestazioni consigliamo l’impiego di una pila alcalina.

Note

•Non caricare la pila a secco.

•Quando si prevede di non usare il Walkman per un lungo periodo, estrarre la pila per evitare danni causati da perdite di fluido della pila e la risultante corrosione.

•Quando la pila si indebolisce, il Walkman può non funzionare normalmente. Sostituire la pila con un’altra nuova.

Note

•Non rimuovere la pellicola di plastica della pila ricaricabile.

•Usare la pila ricaricabile Sony NC-6WM solo con il caricapile in dotazione o con il caricapile in vendita separatamente per la Sony NC-6WM.

•Scollegare il caricapile dalla presa di corrente il prima possibile dopo che la pila è stata caricata. Una carica eccessiva può danneggiare la pila ricaricabile.

•Il caricapile e la pila ricaricabile possono riscaldarsi durante la carica ma questo non è indice di problemi.

•Assicurarsi di non cortocircuitare la pila. Quando la si porta con sè usare la custodia di trasporto in dotazione. Se non si usa la custodia di trasporto, non tenere la pila in tasca insieme ad oggetti metallici, come delle chiavi.

Corrente domestica(vedere la fig. A-e)

Estrarre la pila ricaricabile se inserita e applicare il portapila. Collegare il trasformatore CA AC-E15HG (non in dotazione) alla presa DC IN 1.5V del portapila e alla presa di corrente. Non usare altri trasformatori CA.

Rilascio di HOLD

La funzione HOLD blocca il Walkman per evitare che si attivi quando si preme accidentalmente un tasto. Se il Walkman è bloccato, sbloccarlo prima di farne uso.

Il selettore del tipo di nastro sceglie automaticamente il nastro (normale (tipo I), al cromo (tipo II) o al metallo (tipo IV)) per la riproduzione.

Note sull'AMS

•I segnali acustici differiscono a seconda del numero di brani cercato. Mentre viene localizzato l’inizio dei 3 brani successivi con le operazioni AMS, sono emessi ripetutamente segnali acustici “• – – –” (un bip seguito da tre bip lunghi). In modo analogo, mentre viene localizzato l’inizio dei 2 brani precedenti, sono emessi ripetutamente segnali acustici “•• – – –”. Via via che il numero di brani rimanenti cala, il numero di bip lunghi cala in modo corrispondente.

•Per usare l’AMS, sono necessari spazi vuoti di 4 secondi o più tra i brani. Se quindi c’è rumore nello spazio tra i brani questa funzione non individua lo spazio vuoto e non si attiva. In modo analogo, se il livello di registrazione è relativamente basso all’interno di un brano, questa funzione può attivarsi erroneamente.

Selezione del modo di riproduzione (PB) (vedere la fig. D-c)

Premere ripetutamente MENU nel modo di riproduzione o di arresto per spostare il cursore su MODE (PB) sul display. Quindi premere SET per selezionare il modo desiderato.

Registrazione

(vedere la fig. E-a)

Èpossibile registrare programmi radio dalla radio incorporata, o registrare con il microfono in dotazione. In entrambi i casi, usare una pila nuova o una completamente carica.

1 Inserire un nastro normale (tipo I) con la facciata da registrare rivolta verso il comparto cassetta. Quando si apre il comparto cassetta, “FWD” appare sul display.

Se è visualizzato “REV”, aprire e chiudere il comparto cassetta in modo che appaia “FWD”.

2 Selezionare la fonte di registrazione:Per registrare dalla radio

Sintonizzare la stazione che si desidera registrare (fare riferimento a “Ascolto della radio”). Quando si registrano programmi FM, assicurarsi che siano collegati gli auricolari, perché il filo degli auricolari funge da antenna.

Per registrare con il microfono

Collegare il microfono in dotazione alla presa MIC (PLUG IN POWER). È possibile usare il supporto per microfono in dotazione come mostrato

nell'illustrazione (vedere la fig. E-b).3 Spostare REC.“REC” appare sul display e la registrazione inizia dopo due secondi circa.

La registrazione si interrompe quando il nastro giunge alla fine di quella facciata.

Per interrompere la registrazionePremere p.Per ridurre il rumore durante la registrazione di programmi AM

Regolare l'interruttore ISS (interruttore di soppressione interferenze) nella posizione che meglio riduce il rumore.

Per evitare di registrare accidentalmente su un nastro già registrato (vedere la fig. E-c)

Asportare la linguetta dalla facciata A e/o B. Per registrare di nuovo su quel nastro, coprire il foro lasciato dalla linguetta con del nastro adesivo.

Note

•Non usare nastri al cromo (tipo II) o al metallo (tipo IV), perché il suono potrebbe essere distorto quando si riproduce il nastro, o la registrazione precedente potrebbe non essere cancellata completamente.

•Non collegare o scollegare le cuffie dalla presa 2REMOTE durante la registrazione dalla radio.

Il modo di registrazione potrebbe cambiare bruscamente, o potrebbe essere registrato del rumore.

•Quando si registra con il microfono, per evitare interferenze non collocare il microfono vicino al cavo di una lampada o vicino ad una lampada fluorescente.

•Se si verifica l'effetto di ululato, abbassare il volume.

•Durante la registrazione, funziona solo il tasto p (arresto).

•Il modo MB/GRV non ha effetto sulla registrazione.

•Durante la registrazione non è possibile usare la funzione di menu LCD.
