Replacing the Starter Rope and Rewind Spring
Removing the shroud
NMove the Master Control lever to stop position (0)
NPush the hand guard forward – the chain is locked.

NOpen the twist locks (1) by turning them 1/4 turn counterclockwise with the combination wrench.
NRemove the shroud (2).
Removing the fan housing

NTake out the screws (1).
NPush the hand guard upwards.
NPull the underside of the fan housing away from the crankcase and remove it downwards.

NUse a screwdriver or suitable pliers to remove the spring clip (2) from the starter post.
NCarefully remove the rope rotor with washer (3) and pawls (4).
The rewind spring may pop out and uncoil during this operation – take care to reduce risk of injury.
Models with ElastoStart
NUse a screwdriver to pry the rope out of the starter grip.
NRemove the remaining rope from the rotor and starter grip.

NThread the new rope through the top of the starter grip.
Models without ElastoStart
NUse a screwdriver to pry the rope out of the starter grip.
NRemove the remaining rope from the rotor and starter grip.

NThread the new rope through the starter grip and tie one of the special knots shown.
NPull the knot back into the grip.
