Dodge Trucks with Cummins Engine (2000 – 2005): Vehicle Service Connection

SERVICE ISSUE

ATF cooler line connections at the radiator have quick release style fittings and require a special fitting and tool for access. Alternate cooler line connections can be made using the recommended procedure.

RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE

1.Open the hood and locate the Transmission Cooler which is mounted on the left side of the engine. The ATF Cooler Line connections are easily accessible.

2.Remove one of the ATF Cooler Lines from the Transmission Cooler using a 7/8” flare nut wrench.

3.Install the female fitting from the T-TECHFIT417 Special Fitting Kit onto the Transmission Cooler fitting and carefully tighten (requires a 23mm flare nut wrench). Use care to avoid damaging the threads on the Transmission Cooler.

4.Insert the male fitting from the T-TECHFIT417 Special Fitting Kit into the end of the ATF Cooler Line and carefully tighten (requires a 13/16” flare nut wrench).

5.Install a T-TECHclear Service Hose Adapter to each fitting and secure properly with a hose clamp.

6.Connect a T-TECHRed Service Hose to each Service Hose Adapter and perform the ATF exchange as outlined in the T-TECHUser’s Guide. Remember, these vehicles need to have the emergency brake set securely and the transmission placed in neutral for servicing.

7.Use care when reconnecting the ATF Cooler Line to the Transmission Cooler – the fitting and cooler line can be damaged by over-tightening.

Note: Always inspect the vehicle for leaks and proper transmission fluid level after the ATF exchange is completed. Always follow all safety procedures noted in the T-TECHUsers Guide.
