SPEAKER PLACEMENT

The SCS4 is specifically designed to give a high level of performance from a variety of room locations and positions. They can be placed on bookshelves or on stands, and oriented horizontally or vertically while still providing a degree of realism not usually obtainable under unusual or difficult placement conditions. Because the SCS4 is magnetically shielded, it can be placed on or near video displays without causing picture distortion.

All aspects of speaker placement are dependent on the particular room. Since every room is different, no hard rules can be given, and experimentation is necessary to achieve the best results.

CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS

The SCS4’s input terminals are located on the rear of the speaker. The SCS4 uses a 5-

way binding post which accepts several types of speaker cable termination. Make sure

that all connections are tight. The input terminals are designed to be easily tightened

by hand or a 12 inch nut driver can be used.

It is essential for proper performance that both speakers in a stereo system be wired in

the same polarity. The speaker’s input terminals are color coded to facilitate this. The wire

connected to the red ringed input terminal of each speaker should connect to the respective

positive (+) output terminals of the amplifier; the wire connected to the black ringed input

terminals should be connected to the respective negative (–) output terminals of the

amplifier.

The speakers should be connected to the amplifier with high quality cable to ensure

minimal loss of power and proper control by the amplifier. If the speakers are being

connected to a vacuum tube amplifier with various impedance taps, the 4 ohm tap will

usually give the best results.

SCS4 specifications

Thiel Audio Products has long been a name associated with high-fidelity sound, and the SCS4 speakers embody the brand’s commitment to excellence in audio engineering. The SCS4 model is designed to deliver exceptional performance, making it suitable for audiophiles as well as casual listeners who are seeking superior sound quality.

One of the standout features of the SCS4 is its unique driver configuration. The speaker incorporates a 6.5-inch woofer that is coupled with a 1-inch titanium dome tweeter. This combination is engineered to produce a wide frequency response, ensuring that both low-end bass and high-end clarity are present in the music. The well-designed crossover network allows for seamless integration between the woofer and tweeter, creating a cohesive soundstage.

The SCS4 also employs Thiel's proprietary engineering technologies, notably the "phase coherence" design, which aims to align the sound waves from both drivers. This technology helps in delivering precise imaging and spatial accuracy, allowing listeners to experience music as it was intended to be heard, with each instrument and vocal clearly defined in the auditory landscape.

Another significant characteristic of the SCS4 is its cabinet construction. Thiel has utilized a sturdy, well-braced enclosure that reduces unwanted resonances, which can color the sound. The cabinet is designed with aesthetics in mind, featuring a clean and modern look that can seamlessly fit into various home decor styles. Available in multiple finishes, the SCS4 is not just a speaker; it’s also a stylish addition to any room.

In terms of connectivity, the SCS4 is equipped with gold-plated binding posts that facilitate secure connections to a variety of audio systems. The speakers are compatible with both high-powered amplifiers and lower wattage setups, making them versatile enough to suit different listening environments.

With a sensitivity rating of 87 dB, the SCS4 is relatively easy to drive, which means it can deliver great sound even with moderate amplification. Whether used in a home theater setup or a stereo listening room, the Thiel SCS4 provides a rich, immersive audio experience that elevates any musical genre.

Overall, the Thiel Audio Products SCS4 stands out as a well-rounded speaker option for those serious about sound quality, blending advanced technologies, elegant design, and versatility for an exceptional listening experience.
