68 Getting Started

Hard Drive Recovery Utilities

3Specify the size of the C: drive. Click the up/down arrows to

increase/decrease the C: drive size in 1 GB increments.

The size of the C: drive will display on the progress bar as you make

your selections.

4Click Next to begin the restoration. Once complete, a message

displays that the HDD has been recovered.

5Press any key on your keyboard to restart the computer.

Hard Disk Drive Recovery using the Recovery media

If you need to recover your computer to its default factory state, you

can rebuild the system using your Hard Drive Recovery Utilities.

To recover your hard disk drive using the utilities burned to DVDs

(refer to “Creating Recovery DVDs” on page 62):

1Insert the first recovery DVD into your optical drive and power

on the computer.

2When the initial screen displays, press F12.

The boot menu appears.

3Using the arrow keys, select the DVD option and press Enter.

4The Selecting a Process Screen will appear. Select one of the

options and then click Next. The options are:

Keyboard problems The keyboard produces unexpected characters. Nothing happens when you press the keys on the external keyboard. Display problems The screen is blank. Optical drive problems You cannot access a disc in the drive. You press the disc eject button, but the drive tray does not slide out. Some discs run correctly but others do not. The disc will not come out of the drive when you click the eject button on the screen. Sound system problems No sound is coming from the computers speakers.
