Hard Drive Recovery Utilities

7The Toshiba Recovery Wizard screen will appear. Please refer

to “Hard Disk Drive Recovery options” on page 63 to explain

the available recovery options.

Checking the HDD operating status

After restoring your hard disk drive, you can check its status as

follows:

1Click Start.

2Right-click My Computer.

3Select Manage.

4Click Disk Management.

5Highlight the hard disk drive in the Volume list to display its

status in the lower portion of the screen.

Installing drivers and applications

The Toshiba Application Installer (available on certain models)

allows you to reinstall the drivers and applications that were

originally bundled with your computer.

To reinstall drivers and applications:

1Click Start, All Programs, Toshiba, Recovery, and then

TOSHIBA Application Installer.

2Click Next.

3Click the item you want to install.

The AC adaptor and power cord/cable work correctly, but the battery will not charge. The battery appears not to power the computer for as long as it usually does. Keyboard problems The keyboard produces unexpected characters. Nothing happens when you press the keys on the external keyboard. Display problems The screen is blank. Disk or internal storage drive problems You are having trouble accessing a drive, or one or more files appear to be missing. Error-checking Your hard disk seems very slow. Your data files are damaged or corrupted. Some programs run correctly but others do not. A diskette will not go into the optional external diskette drive. The drive cannot read a diskette. Optical drive problems You cannot access a disc in the drive. You press the disc eject button, but the drive tray does not slide out. Some discs run correctly but others do not. The disc will not come out of the drive when you click the eject button on the screen. Sound system problems No sound is coming from the computers speakers. The computer emits a loud, high-pitched noise. PC Card problems PC Card checklist Resolving PC Card problems The system does not recognize your PC Card. A PC Card error occurs. Printer problems The printer will not print. The printer will not print what you see on the screen. Modem problems The modem will not receive or transmit properly. The modem is on, set up properly but still does not transmit or receive data. DVD operating problems A blank screen appears while watching a DVD-ROM movie or title. The screen saver runs while you are watching a movie or title.
