NOTEBOOK COMPUTER SURGE SUPPRESSORS

SMP, iGuard

Installation

Plug the surge suppressor into a grounded 3-conductor 120 Volt AC (VAC) outlet. DO NOT use 2-wire extension cords or adapters. When the surge suppressor is plugged in, the RED Indicator Light will illuminate. This light shows AC power is present. Lack of a proper ground connection will eliminate common-mode protection. However, you may plug 2-wire devices into the single surge suppressor outlet. The total full load that can be drawn from the single surge suppressor outlet is 15 amps (1875 watts). DO NOT exceed a total load of 15 amps with equipment plugged into the surge suppressor.

If the surge suppressor is plugged into a vertically-oriented AC outlet or a wall receptacle with four or more outlets, it should be plugged into the lower outlets. If the unit is plugged into a horizontally-oriented wall outlet, it should be plugged into the right hand outlet. This will prevent the unit’s case from blocking any of the other AC outlets.

Connection to the Telephone Line

With the surge suppressor plugged into a properly grounded AC outlet, connection to the telephone line can be accomplished. Refer to the drawing below depicting proper connection of the surge suppressor. A 6-foot standard phone cord with RJ11 plugs is supplied with the surge suppressor. Insert one end of the SUPPLIED phone cord into the RIGHT jack. Connect the other end of the SUPPLIED phone cord into your telephone wall jack. Insert the end of your TELEPHONE’s phone cord into the CENTER jack. Insert the end of your EQUIPMENT’s phone cord (e.g.: laptop computer’s modem) into the LEFT jack. Insert the EQUIPMENT’s AC line cord into the outlet on the front of the surge suppressor. Your equipment is now protected from transient spikes and surges on both the AC and telephone line.
