SAlignholeinthedustcup withtheholeinthe
sideofthe gearboxbyrotatingthedustcup.
SInsertasmall screwdriverinto aligned
holes.Thiswillkeep the shaftfromturning
whiletightening trimmerhead.

SWhile holding thescrewdriverin position,
thread trimmerhead ontotheshaft inthe
directionshownonthedecal.Tightenuntil
secure.

NOTE:Theretaining washermustbe posi-

tionedwiththeraisedsectionfacingtowardthe
gearbox.

NOTE:Ifyourunithasbeen assembled for
trimmerheaduse,refertothesectionATTACH-
INGTHEPLASTICSHIELDANDTRIMMER
HEADandreversethe stepstoremovethe
plastic shield and trimmerhead beforeyou
mountthemetalshield andblade.Storethese
partsforfutureuse.Neverusethetrimmerhead
withthe metalblade installed.

ASSEMBLYOFTHEMETALSHIELD

DANGER:Themetalshieldmustbe prop-
erlyinstalled on the toolanytimethe tool is
used withthe blade.The forwardtop ofthe
metalshieldhelpstoreducethe occurrence
ofbladethrustwhichcancauseseriousinjury
such asamputation tothe operatororby-
standers.Failuretoinstall the shieldinthe
positionshowncan resultinseriousinjuryto
theoperator.Thelengthof the shieldmustbe
alignedwiththe length of the tube.Theblade
is sharp and can cutyou.Besuretowear
gloveswhileworking with blades.
SIf yourunithasa plastic coveroverthe
threadsonthe shaft,removethe covering
to exposethe threads.
STurnunitover(threadson shaftfacingup),
placethe metalshield overthe gearbox,
and align the screwholes.

SInsertthe4mountingscrewsthrough the
bottomofthe shield.Thread themintothe
gearbox.Tightenevenlyandsecurelywith
one of the hexwrenchesprovided.

teninghardwareotherthan thewashersand
nutsillustrated inthe following illustrations.
ThesepartsmustbeprovidedbyWeedEater,
andinstalled as shown below.Failuretouse
properpartscancausethe bladetoflyoffand
seriouslyhurtyou orothers.

NOTE:Thedustcupandretainingwasherare

locatedonthegearboxandnotinthepartsbag.
SRemovetheretainerwasherfromthegear-
box,andleavethedustcuponthegearbox.
NOTE:Itmaybe necessarytoremove a
plasticprotectivecovering fromthe
threadedshaftbeforeremoving theretain-
ing washer.

tendingfromthegearboxbetween thedust
cup and the retaining washer.Makesure
the raised partof the retaining washeris
facingthegearbox,and theraised areafits
intothe holeinthe centerof the blade.
