The time delay of each speaker driver is controlled by a Digital Sound Processing circuit, enabling the system to project "beams" of sound which are precisely aimed for optimum surround sound effect. The direct and reflected sound waves produce true multi-channel surround sound.

High quality two-channel (stereo) sound can also be reproduced by superimposing multiple beams of sound as pictured above.

YSP-1 specifications

The Yamaha YSP-1, introduced as one of the original Sound Projectors, revolutionized the way we experience audio in home theaters. This innovative device combines advanced technology with a compact design to deliver an immersive sound experience without the need for multiple speakers.

One of the defining features of the YSP-1 is its utilization of Digital Sound Projector technology. This innovative approach uses an array of 40 small speakers, arranged in a unique configuration, to create a wide soundstage. The projector employs digital signal processing to direct sounds toward specific locations in the room, simulating a multi-speaker surround sound setup. This capability allows users to enjoy expansive sound environments, making movies, concerts, and games come to life.

Another significant aspect of the YSP-1 is its ability to decode and process various surround sound formats. Supporting formats such as Dolby Digital, DTS, and PCM, it ensures compatibility with a vast array of media. The YSP-1 can adapt its output based on the audio source, providing an optimal listening experience irrespective of whether it’s a movie, TV show, or music.

The onboard technology also includes sophisticated room-correction capabilities. Utilizing a built-in microphone, the YSP-1 can analyze the acoustics of your room and adjust its sound output accordingly. This feature minimizes issues caused by reflections and standing waves, ensuring that users enjoy balanced sound across different listening positions.

The sleek, minimalist design of the YSP-1 makes it a versatile addition to any home entertainment setup. It can be mounted on a wall or placed on a shelf, blending seamlessly with your décor. The unit features a range of connectivity options, including optical and coaxial digital inputs, making it easy to connect to various audio sources, including TVs, DVD players, and gaming consoles.

Overall, the Yamaha YSP-1 represents a significant step forward in sound projection technology. With its combination of advanced features, sophisticated sound processing, and elegant design, it sets a high standard for compact audio solutions in home theaters. As users experience the power of immersive sound without the clutter of traditional speaker systems, the YSP-1 continues to be a noteworthy choice for audiophiles and casual listeners alike.
