engine causing serious injury. To avoid this risk, carefully follow these instructions:

7.Grasp starter cord handle. See Figure 29.

a.Pull rope out slowly until you feel drag.

b.Without allowing the rope to retract, continue pulling rope with one rapid full arm stroke.

c.Return rope slowly to original position.

NOTES

Following the instructions listed in the steps above avoids potential damage to the recoil mechanism.

If recoil starter cord handle is frozen and will not operate engine, proceed as follows:

a.Pull as much rope out of starter as possible.

b.Release starter cord handle and let it snap back against starter to break up ice; these two steps should ONLY be done WHEN starter is FROZEN.

c.If engine fails to start after 3 attempts repeat steps 1 thru 7 and try again.

8.When engine starts:

a.Momentarily move choke control to “1/2 CHOKE” position until engine runs smoothly. See Figure 24 on page 12. Afterward, continue reading instructions below.

b.Next, move choke control to “NO CHOKE” position.

c.Finally, move engine speed control to desired speed in “RUN” range. See Figures 26 and 27 on page 13. Afterward, continue reading instructions below.

NOTES

If engine starts but falters when choke control is moved to “NO CHOKE” position:

a.Momentarily move choke control back to “FULL CHOKE” position.

b.Next, move choke control to “1/2 CHOKE” position until engine runs smoothly.

c.Finally, move choke control to “NO CHOKE” position.

If engine dies after choke control is moved to “NO CHOKE” position repeat steps 3 thru 10 to restart engine.

9.If engine fires but does not continue to run, move choke control to “NO CHOKE” position and start engine. See Figure 24 on page 12. Afterward, continue reading instructions below.

10.If engine fails to start after 3 attempts in the “NO CHOKE” position, move choke control to “FULL CHOKE” position and start engine.

11.If engine does not start after following steps 1 thru 10, contact your Authorized Tecumseh Servicing Dealer. DO NOT attempt to start or troubleshoot this engine in any other way.

OH195SA, OH195SP, LH358SA, LH195SA, LH195SP specifications

The Tecumseh OH358SA, OH318SA, LH318SA, LH195SP, and LH195SA engines represent a range of high-performance power solutions designed primarily for outdoor equipment including lawn mowers, snow blowers, and other utility applications. These engines are crafted to meet the diverse needs of users, blending efficiency with reliability.

The OH358SA is a standout model featuring a powerful overhead valve (OHV) design that enhances performance while ensuring fuel efficiency. This engine is known for its air-cooled, single-cylinder configuration that delivers robust power. With a displacement of 358cc, it is capable of producing substantial torque, making it excellent for larger mowers and commercial-grade applications.

On the other hand, the OH318SA engine is a versatile alternative equipped with similar principles of efficiency and power. With a displacement of 318cc, it is designed for medium-duty equipment, providing sufficient grunt for residential mowing tasks and light commercial usage. Its compact size and lightweight design contribute to improved maneuverability, which is advantageous in tight spaces.

The LH318SA takes the durability of the OH318SA a step further by integrating a heavy-duty crankshaft and reinforced components. This model is particularly suited for harsh working conditions, combining a robust build with an innovative air filtration system that prolongs engine life by maintaining cleanliness in critical areas.

The LH195SP and LH195SA models gear towards smaller applications, offering a balance between performance and weight. Both engines feature a 195cc displacement, making them ideal choices for lightweight equipment. The LH195SP is particularly designed with self-propelling mechanisms in mind, enabling effortless operation of lawn mowers and similar devices.

In terms of technologies, all these models leverage Tecumseh’s commitment to engineering excellence, incorporating sound dampening features for reduced noise levels and enhanced user comfort. They are also equipped with easy-start technology, ensuring that even novice users can get going without cumbersome procedures.

The combination of high-quality materials, ergonomic designs, and technological innovations ensures that Tecumseh engines remain reliable under various loads and operating conditions. These characteristics make them a preferred choice among professionals and homeowners alike, ensuring reliability and efficiency in outdoor tasks. Whether tackling large fields with the OH358SA or maintaining small lawns with the LH195SA, there’s a Tecumseh engine designed to meet every user's demands.
