5. Navigate to the folder where you saved the firmware upgrade file. Select the file.

NValid firmware files must have the file extension .S19. Any other file extension is not a firmware upgrade.

NThe original factory-installed firmware is permanently available on the

MVX 128 A switcher. If the attempted firmware upload fails for any reason, the switcher reverts to the factory-installed firmware.

6. Click the Open button. A status window, which shows the progress of the upload, appears (figure 5-5). The firmware upload to the MVX 128 A switcher may take a few minutes.

Figure 5-5 — Firmware Loader status indicator bar, switcher reset, and firmware update

NIf the firmware loader utility exits before the status bar has progressed completely across the indicator window, try using a control cable with only pins 2, 3, and 5 connected. If necessary, modify the cable by removing pins or cutting wires.

7.

When prompted, confirm that the firmware version displayed in the firmware

loader is correct. Click Ok in the Firmware Update prompt window.

8.

Click the Exit button to exit the firmware loader utility.

NThe firmware loader utility increases the serial port’s baud rate to 115,200 to speed up the upload process. Occasionally, the firmware loader may be unable to return the serial port to its earlier baud rate, in which case communications with the switcher may not be possible. If you are no longer able to communicate with the switcher after the firmware upload completes, see Selecting the RS-232/RS-422 protocol and baud rate in chapter 3, Operation, on

page 3-33.
