4.4Installing the Central Processing Unit (CPU)

The panel PC is equipped with a central processing unit (CPU) that can be upgraded to improve system performance. The panel PC provides one 478-pin ZIF (Zero Inser- tion Force) socket, or “Socket 478.” The CPU must be fitted with an appropriate heat- sink and CPU fan to prevent overheating.

Warning! The CPU may be damaged if operated without a heat sink, and if the fan is not connected to the CPU fan power connector.

Caution! Always disconnect the power cord from your panel PC when you are working on it. Do not make connections while the power is on as sen- sitive electronic components can be damaged by the sudden rush of power. Only experienced electronics personnel should open the panel PC.

Follow these instructions to install a CPU:

1.Place the CPU carefully into the socket, taking care to align it properly.
