Viewing Port Assignments

To view ports assigned to a specific VLAN, from the VLAN pull-down menu located above the System Information and Virtual LANS area (Figure 2-3), select the VLAN for which you want to view port assignments. All enabled ports connected to the selected VLAN display as yellow (connected to a selected VLAN but not plugged in) or green (connected and enabled with a link) in the switch representation.

Working with Hunt Groups (Link Aggregation)

Link Aggregation (Hunt Groups) allow you to aggregate multiple switch ports into a single group, effectively combining the bandwidth into a single connection.

*Note: In this document, link aggregation is referred to as hunt groups.

For example, if you connect three gigabit ports each on a pair of switches into a hunt group, the aggregated connection will have six gigabits of available bandwidth (full- duplex).

Hunt groups also provide fault tolerance. If a port in a hunt group fails, the remaining ports continue to forward the traffic on the link.

Hunt Group Considerations

Before creating a hunt group, consider the following points:

The switches do not have a link discovery protocol. When creating a hunt group, you have to verify that the ports in a group on one switch are physically connected to the ports in that group on the other switch.

If one end of a connection is in a hunt group, the other end of the connection should also be a hunt group. Otherwise, the forwarding behavior of the hunt group is unpredictable.

You should disable the ports in a hunt group until both ends of the link are configured.
