The Maxtor OneTouch button, Power management, and OneTouch Settings utility program are not supported for USB on the Macintosh. You may, however, use your drive as external storage and utilize the Retrospect Express software to maintain backup copies of your ﬁles and complete system.

To connect the USB cable

1.Plug the larger end of the USB cable into any available

USB port on your computer. This USB logo ™

may help you identify a USB port.

2.Plug the smaller end of the USB cable into the USB connection on the drive.

Depending on the size of your drive, it may take several seconds for your Macintosh to recognize the drive.

The installation is complete and your drive is ready to use!

Connecting with the FireWire Cable

Do not plug a FireWire cable into the drive when a USB cable is already connected to the drive. This drive will only operate with one interface at a time.

Before you connect

Disable the File Exchange control panel:

•From the Apple menu, select Control Panels

•The Control Panels folder will open.

•Double-click the Extensions Manager icon. The Extensions Manager panel will open.

•From the list that appears, uncheck the check box next to the File Exchange control panel by clicking on it.

•Click Restart.

After your Macintosh restarts, proceed to the next step.
