External peripherals that use serial transmission scheme include serial mouse and modem.
Your motherboard comes with two types of serial connectors with flat cables:
Øone 9-pin male external connector with 9-pin flat cable
Øone 25-pin male external connector with 9-pin flat cable Plug the 9-pin end of the flat cable into the COM1 or COM2 serial connector on the motherboard, as shown in the figure below, then fix the external 9-pin or 25-pin connector to the rear panel of the computer case. Then plug your serial device cable directly into the
9-pin or 25-pin male connector located at the back of your computer.
