NOTE: Do not back up files to the same hard disk that Windows is installed on. For example, do not back up files to a recovery partition. You can back up to another drive or DVD.

Recovery Data Backup

TOSHIBA recommends creating recovery media if you have not done so already.

1.Click the Windows Start button, and type “recovery” into the Start Search field.

2.Click ‘Recovery Media Creator’ and follow that program’s instructions to create a recovery DVD.

!Additional items requiring your attention prior to upgrading to Windows 8

1.Apply and maintain AC power to your computer during the Windows 8 Upgrade process

2.Ensure proper and reliable internet connectivity during the upgrade process.

3.Remove all USB connected devices from the computer prior to upgrading to Windows 8. This includes and is not limited to external keyboards, mice, hard disk drives and flash memory.

4.The Windows 8 upgrade could take few hours to complete and to ensure that there is no interruption during this time, please make sure to set your system power options to “Never” in the “Putting the computer to sleep” section.

5.If your computer has a Finger Print Reader, make note of any passwords you may have authenticated with your fingerprint. The passwords will be lost after the Windows 8 upgrade.

6.Go to http://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com to register for the Windows 8 upgrade offer from Microsoft and redeem your upgrade before preparing your computer with the following instructions from Toshiba for the Windows 8 upgrade.

7.If your computer has a RAID controller (Hard disk drive with a Solid State disk cache) review the support bulletin about preparing a USB stick with appropriate drivers required during the Windows 8 installation. http://kb.toshiba.com/98084090 (Models PSU4S, PSU4W, PSU4R, PSU4V and PSU5R)

INFORMATION ON ITEMS THAT MAY RESULT IN A LOSS OF FUNCTIONALITY AFTER UPGRADING TO WINDOWS 8

Windows Media Player no longer supports DVD or Blu‐ray playback in Windows 8. Separate DVD playback software is required in order to watch DVD or Blu‐ray (when applicable) discs after upgrading to Windows 8.
