with digital audio recorders (CD, MD and DAT) and AV amplifiers

 

PCM (Pulse Code Modulation)

 

The most common system of encoding digital audio, found on CD

 

and DAT. Excellent quality, but requires a lot of data compared to

 

formats such as Dolby Digital and MPEG audio. For compatibility

 

with digital inputs, this unit can convert Dolby Digital and MPEG

 

audio to PCM. See also “Digital Audio”.

Picture-in-Picture

This BD-Video function allows you to view making or commentary

 

 

scenes in the secondary video while viewing the main story in the

 

primary video.

 

Popup Menu

 

This menu recorded in BD software. While playing back a BD, this

 

menu can be displayed on the front of the screen and can be

 

operated.

Primary Audio

This audio signal is recorded in the main story in BD-Video.

 

 

Progressive (sequential scanning)

 

This is a scanning system of video signal that displays 1 frame of

 

video as one image. Compared to the interlace system, this system

 

provides images with less flickering and bleeding.

 

Proxy Server

Function

Proxy server is a server which acts as an intermediary between a

 

 

workstation user and the Internet to ensure security.

Depending on the age of the viewer, this function restricts playing

 

back of BD-Video or DVD-Video. BD5004 can be set to restrict

 

viewing in 1 to 254 level for BD-Video, and 1 to 8 level for DVD-

 

 

Video.

Region Code

This code indicates country or region where the BD or DVD-Video

 

 

can be played back.

 

Router

A networking device which distinguishes the IP address assigned to each device and routing and forwarding information in the computer network.

Sampling Frequency

The rate which sound is measured by a specified interval to turn into digital audio data. The numbers of sampling in one second defines as sampling frequency. The higher the rate, the better the sound quality.

Secondary Audio

The audio signals recorded in the BONUSVIEW of BD-Video. (e.g. Comment of movie director)

Subnet Mask

A mask which is used to determine what subnet an IP address belongs to.

Title

This is the unit of content that consists of chapters of BD or DVD-

Video. Some BD or DVD-Video may include multiple titles.

Virtual Package

The function which copies data to other media (local storage) from the Internet and play the secondary video, secondary audio and the subtitle at the same time. The method of the playback varies depending on discs.

Windows Media™ Audio

Windows Media™ Audio is the audio compressing technology developed by Microsoft. You can copy Windows Media™ Audio files on disc or SD Memory Card from a computer and play them back on this unit.
