Insert a videotape in Deck 1 or Deck 2.

If the tape has a record safety tab, you will see the menu at left.

If the tape is in Deck 1 and is missing the record safety tab, please see MOVIE ADVANCE on page 30.

While the tape is stopped or playing, press press SEARCH/INDEX.

Press 2, 3, 4 or 5 to select one of the following:

Searches for the next available blank (unrecorded) segment on your tape. This makes it easy to find available space when recording TV shows or editing tapes.

If the VCR finds blank tape, it will stop.

If the VCR does not find blank tape, it will eject the tape.

If you set “CA Playback” to “Manual” (see page 25), you can still fast- forward through marked commercials with Manual CA Playback. While you are watching a tape with marked commercials, press SEARCH/INDEX to bring up the “Search Menu,” and then press 5 to select “Manual CA Playback.” The VCR will search forward to the end of the next marked commercial group, then resume playback.

This feature works in Deck 1 only

Tapes must be recorded in SP or

Locates a specific tape counter position in hours, minutes, and seconds. This is useful for editing purposes; e.g., you can advance the tape directly to the beginning of the desired scene.

Press 1 for positive or 2 for negative counter values.

Use the 0-9 keys to enter the desired time in hours, minutes, and seconds.

Press CLEAR if you need to back up and re-enter a number.

Press SEARCH/INDEX to advance the tape to the specified time.

4 - R e t u r n t o 0 : 0 0 : 0 0

Advances your videotape to tape counter position 0:00:00. This is useful when editing from a baseline counter value of 0:00:00.

When selected, the VCR will automati- cally rewind or fast-forward the tape to counter position 0:00:00.
