Terminology
SDTV (Standard Definition Television): Provide 480 lines of resolution. The picture uses interlace scanning which means it begins its scan from odd lines and then the even lines.
EDTV (Extended Definition Television): Provide 480 lines of resolution. The picture uses progressive scanning which means it begins its scan line by line from top to bottom.
HDTV (High Definition Television): Provide 720 lines or 1080 lines of resolutions with native aspect ratio of 16:9. The picture uses 720i (interlace), 720p (progressive), or 1080i (interlace) to scan.
