Selecting a Focus Mode

Focus Mode

None

Auto

The camera is focused on the subject in the focusing

 

 

area when the shutter release button is pressed halfway.

 

Macro Mode

This mode is used when the distance to the subject is

 

 

approx. 10cm-50cm (0.33ft-1.64ft). The camera is

 

 

focused on the subject in the focusing area when the

 

 

shutter release button is pressed halfway.

 

Infinity-landscape mode

This mode is used for taking distant objects.

 

Manual Focus Mode

The subject is brought into focus manually.

 

AF area move mode

This mode is for changing the position of the autofocus

 

 

(AF) area.

 

 

 

zPress the button in Capture mode.

The focus mode changes each time the button is pressed and the setting is displayed on the LCD monitor.

The camera is ready to take the picture in the set focus mode.

memo • When [Focus Mode] in the [Memory] menu (p.74) is not turned on, the focus mode goes back to [Auto] when you turn off the power.

The default setting of the focus mode is [Auto]. When the focus mode is [Auto], no icon is displayed on the LCD monitor.

Caution If you take a picture while looking through the viewfinder when the focus mode is set on Macro, the range of the resulting pic- ture may differ from what was seen in the viewfinder.

Manual Focus

When the mode is set on , the center of the picture is enlarged to full screen on the LCD monitor. Adjust the focus with the four- way controller while looking at the image on the monitor.

When you release the four-way controller, the focus position is set, and the screen returns to the normal display two seconds later.

memo When it is difficult to obtain the correct focus in Manual Focus mode for taking pictures in dark places, press the shutter release button halfway in Auto mode, and the AF spotbeam will be emit- ted, enabling the camera to focus more easily on the subject.
