CONTROLLING THE EXPOSURE
Since the Reflex-Nikkor is fitted with a fixed f/11 aperture, exposure adjustments are possible only via the use of neutral density filters (or by adjusting the camera's shutter speed). Nikon offers three different ND filters (the ND4X is provided with the lens) having exposure factors of 2X, 4X and 8X, respectively, to enable effective aperture settings of f/16, f/22 and f/32 with the Reflex-Nikkor 1000mm f/11. The table below shows the various effective apertures and factors available with each filter; note that since the ND filter only cuts down the light striking the film without reducing the lens aperture, depth of field remains the same.
| Exposure factor | Effective aperture |
Type of filter | with the Reflex- |
| | Nikkor 1000mm f/11 |
ND2X | 2 | 16 |
ND4X | 4 | 22 |
ND8X | 8 | 32 |
