System Type 1

Filter Description:

In this system type, both woofer and tweeter are equidistant from the listening position and mounted close together. While the kick-panel is one of the more common locations to achieve this, it is certainly not the only one. What is most significant, is that by mounting the two drivers in close proximity with a minimized off-axis angle at the greatest distance possible from the listening position (config. A), it provides one of the best arrangements for optimum imaging. Conversely, if the woofer mounting angle is not built out to be approximately on-axis, or is left basically flush to the panel, this extreme off-axis position will cause its relative phase to be shifted significantly. In this case, maximum phase shift of the tweeter using configuration B (HP-3) will be necessary for achieving phase linkage between the two drivers. Due to the wide variation in vehicles and installation techniques however, it may be necessary to listen to both configuration settings in order to determine the most appropriate setting.

Although recommendations are made for the frequency response adjustment settings (WF & TW jumper groups), it may be desirable to alter the midrange characteristic or tweeter level to suit personal taste. From the graphs below, the effect of the available active settings can be seen.
