Crossover Network Settings

Filter Description:

Fully active systems have often been considered to be the most flexible, but they are certainly not the most effective in all cases. While it is usually considered best to have individual channels of amplification for each driver, it may not be appropriate to always use the electronic crossover that is included with many amplifiers today. This can be especially true for systems where optimum placement or tuning is not possible, as it may be advantageous to use this network for its various phase correction and/or response compensation capabilities. Additionally, digital time delay can be a complementary solution to correct for left/right seating position bias, while leaving the network in place to achieve phase linkage between the woofer and tweeter. The only situation where the network might not be used at all, is in a fully active system with individual channels of amplification, equalization and time correction available for each driver.

Here are the basic options for use of the network in a partially or fully active mode: Option-1) Use all appropriate functions of the network, but engage an electronic high-

pass filter on the woofer for increased power handling (usually recommended in systems with subwoofers).

Option-2) Bypass either the woofer or tweeter filter section in favor of an electronic crossover, still utilizing the phase and response adjustments of the other.

Option-3) Bypass both sections (fully active), but retain both the tweeter’s protection circuit and basic level adjustment.

Le système totalement actif est généralement considéré comme le plus souple, mais il n’est pas le plus efficace dans tous les cas. Bien qu’il soit d’habitude préférable d’amplifier chaque haut-parleur séparément, l’utilisation du filtre électronique compris avec beaucoup d’amplificateurs de nos jours peut être inappropriée. Il est important de noter que pour les systèmes où l’emplacement optimal n’est pas disponible, il est avantageux d’utiliser ce filtre en mode partiellement actif pour profiter de sa puissante capacité de correction de phase et de compensation de réponse. De plus, dans les cas où un seul canal de temporisation est disponible pour chaque jeu de composants, on recommande fortement de l’utiliser pour corriger les différences des distances jusqu’à l’auditeur, tout en laissant le filtre en place pour obtenir la synchronisation de phase entre les haut-parleurs. Le seul cas où on recommande de ne pas utiliser le filtre est le système totalement actif où des canaux d’amplification et de temporisation sont disponibles pour chaque composant.

Il y a plusieurs options d’utilisation en mode partiellement ou totalement actif :

1)Utiliser toutes les fonctions du filtre et munir le woofer d’un filtre passe-haut électronique pour améliorer la puissance. Recommandé pour un système à subwoofer.

2)Contourner le filtre du woofer ou du tweeter en faveur d’un filtre électronique, mais utiliser les réglages de phase et de réponse d’un d’eux.

3)Contourner les deux sections (totalement actif), mais garder la protection et le réglage du niveau du tweeter.
