Knowing the Basics

Phone Calls

Opening/Closing the

Notification Panel

Notifications report the arrival of new messages, calendar events, and alarms, as well as ongoing events. You can open the Notification Panel to view the details of notifications.

To open the Notification Panel, swipe your finger down from the top of the screen.

To close the Notification Panel, swipe your finger up from the bottom of the screen or tap the Back Key.

Responding to or Removing a Notification

In the Notification Panel, you can respond to a notification or remove the notifications.

To respond to a notification, tap it.

To remove a notification, swipe it left or right.

To remove all notifications, tap in the top right corner.

For some notifications, spread two fingers to view more information.

Most apps that send notifications, such as Gmail and Hangouts, have notification settings that you can adjust.

TIP: In the Notification Panel, tap at the top of notifications list to get to the Settings menu quickly.

Opening and Switching Apps

Opening an App

1.Press the Home Key > .

2.Slide left or right on the screen and tap an app to open it.

Switching Between Recently Opened Apps

1.Press and hold the Menu Key. A list of the names and thumbnails of apps you’ve recently used opens. If you’ve been using more apps recently than can fit on the screen, you can scroll the list up and down.

2.Tap a thumbnail to open that app. You can swipe a thumbnail sideways to remove it from the list.

Making Calls

There are many ways to make a call with your phone. And they’re all easy to do.

Calling From the Dialer

1.Press the Home Key > > Phone or tap on the Home Screen.

2.Enter the phone number with the on-screen keypad.

Tap to delete wrong digits.

3.Tap .

TIP: To make international calls, tap and hold to enter the “+”.

Calling From Your Contacts

1.Press the Home Key > > People.

2.Slide your finger to scroll the contacts list and tap the contact you want to call.

TIP: You can also search for a contact by tapping on the bottom of the screen.

3.Tap .

Calling From Your Call History

1.Press the Home Key > > Call Log.

2.Tap next to the number you want to call.

Calling From a Text Message

If a text message contains a phone number that you want to call, you can make the call while viewing the text message.

1.Press the Home Key > .

2.Tap the conversation and then the message that contains the phone number you need.

3.Tap a number to call it.

4.Tap Call.

Using Speed Dial

Tap and hold 1 - 9 key from the dialer to call the corresponding speed dial number.

The number 1 key is reserved to speed dial your voicemail.

To assign a speed dial key:

1.Press the Home Key > > Menu Key > Settings > Speed dial.

2.Tap a speed dial key.

3.Enter a phone number or tap to select one from the contact list.

4.Tap OK.

Drag to the center to answer the call.
