A selection menu is displayed when you start playing a video CD with the PBC function. The selection menu shows a list of numbers for selection. Some video CDs may show moving pictures or a di- vided screen.

When a list of numbers is displayed, selecting a number shows its contents.

When the selection menu is re-displayed after you have played your selection, selecting a number again can replay its contents. (Some video CDs may show the menu screen several times.)

After playback, press & RETURN to go back to the previous screen. Some video CDs may return you to the menu screen shown before playback.

Playing Video CDs with PBC Functions without Using the PBC Function (PBC OFF)

You can play the video CDs with the PBC function without using the PBC function, as if they were without the PBC function.

1 Insert a video CD 2.0.

The “PBC” indcator lights up on the display.

2 Press the PBC button on the unit to go out “PBC” indicator on the display.

Each time you press the button, the display alternates as fol- lows:

PBC OFF (“PBC” goes out) Ô PBC ON (“PBC” lights up)

For Program Play, Random Play, Repeat Play:

The Program and Random Play cannot be made. Only RE- PEAT functions are possible. (See page 15.)

Playing Video CDs without the PBC Function

Basic playback procedures for video CDs are the same as for audio CDs. (See page 11-15.)

When you start playing a video CD without the PBC function, “VIDEO CD” appears on the display.

Various Functions to Enhance Your Enjoyment

You can use the following features.

Frame-by-Frame Playback

Frame-by-Frame Playback is possible only when moving pictures (of the video CDs ver 1.1 with or without the PBC function of VCD 2.0) are played.

During playback, press the STILL button on the Remote control to pause the video CD.

You can select the frame by the ¢button on the Remote Control. To resume Normal Play, press the STILL button on the Re- mote Control.

During frame-by-frame playback, no sound comes out.

The ¡ button on the Unit does not work for the Frame- by-Frame playback function but works for selecting menu.

3 Press the CD 6button to play the video CD.
