This directive seeks to eliminate the toxic substances released during manufacturing processes to ensure that disposed of materials do not pose health risks. Considered toxic substances are lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDE). Lead is used together with tin in solder connections to reduce the melting point of solder. Lead-free solder requires higher soldering temperatures which in turn places greater thermal stress on components.

The MaxTower complies with RoHS directives and uses components that are certifed RoHS compliant.
