Troubleshooting

Symptom

Nothing appears on the display.

Won’t start

Unable to record

Probable cause

The batteries are not loaded properly.

The batteries are dead.

The POWER/LOCK switch is set to OFF.

If none of these suggestions works

The recorder is in HOLD mode.

The SmartMedia card is not formatted.

The batteries are dead.

The SmartMedia card has a write-protect seal attached to it.

The SmartMedia card is unformatted.

The SmartMedia card does not have enough memory.

Action

Verify polarity is correct.

Replace with new batteries.

Set the POWER/LOCK switch to ON.

Reset the recorder (P.48).

Release the recorder from HOLD (P.48).

Format the SmartMedia card (P.46).

Replace with new batteries.

Remove the seal (P.7).

Format the SmartMedia card (P.46).

Erase unnecessary files or insert another SmartMedia card.

Remove the seal (P.7).

Unlock the file (P.31).

Use the Olympus A321 (for US, Canada) or A322 (for Europe except U.K) AC adapter (Oprional).

Set the POWER/LOCK switch to OFF.
