General Informatio

SECTION 1 6ENERAL INFORMATION

l-l. INTRODUCTION

The HP 8673G Operating Manual contains all the information required to install, operate, and test

the Hewlett-Packard Model 8673G Synthesized Signal Generator. Figure 1-l shows an HP 86736

Signal Generator with all ofits externally supplied accessories.

The HP 8673G Operating Manual has four sections:

Section 1, General Information Section 2, Installation Section 3, Operation Section 4, Performance Tests

The HP 86736 Service Manual, which is shipped with the instrument as Option 915 or ordered separately, has four sections:

Section 5, Adjustments Section 6, Replaceable Parts Section 7, Manual Changes Section 8, Service

Additional copies of the Operating Manual or the Service Manual can be ordered separately through your nearest Hewlett-Packard office.

1-2. SPECIFICATIONS

Instrument specifications are listed in Table 1-l. These specifications are the performance, stand- ards or limits against which the instrument may be tested. Supplemental characteristics are listed in Table l-2. Supplemental characteristics are not warranted specifications, but are typical charac- teristics included a8 additional information for the user.

l-3. SAFETY CONSIDERAIIONS

This product is a Safety Class I instrument, that is, one provided with a protective earth terminal. The Signal Generator and all related documenta- tion should be reviewed for familiarization with safety markings and instructions before opera- tion. Refer to the Safety Considerations page found at the beginning of this manual for a sum- mary of the safety information. Safety informa- tion for installation, operation, performance test- ing, adjustment, or service is foundin appropriate

1-4. MANUAL UPDATES

Manual Updates provide information necess to update the manual. The supplement is identifie

by the manual print date and part number, both which appear on the manual title page.

1-5. DESCRIPTION

The HP 8673G SynthesizZl Signal Genwator h a frequency range of 2.0 to 26.0 GHz (1.95

26.5GHz overrange). The output is leveled a calibrated from 1-8dBm to -100 dBm, dependi on the frequency and options. For addition

information, see Table 1-l. Frequency, outp level, and all other functions except line swit

ca,nbe remotely programmed via HP-IB.

Long-term frequency stability is dependent on t time base, either an internal or external referen oscillator. The internal crystal referenceoscillat operates at 10 MHz while an external oscillat may operate at 5 or 10 MHz. The output of t Signal Generator is exceptionally flat due to t action of the internal automatic leveling cont (AL0 loop.

The Signal Generator is comoatible with HP.IB the extent indicated by the following code: SH AHl,T5,TEO,L3,LEO, SRl, RLl,PPl, DCl, DT and CO.The Signal Generator interfaces with t bus via three-stats TTL circuitry. An explanatio of the compatibility code can be found in IEE Standard 488 (1978), “IEEE Standard Digit Interface for Programmable Instrumentation or the identical ANSI Standard MC1.1. For mo detailed information relating to programmab control of the Signal Generator, refer to Rem Operation, Hewlett-Packard Interface Bus in S tion 3 of thismanual.

l-6. OPTIONS
