IV. Before Starting Your Engine

A. Checking Oil Level

To avoid engine damage, it is important to:

Check oil level before each use and every 5 operating hours when engine is warm. Check oil level more frequently during engine break-in.

Keep oil level between “FULL” and “ADD” marks on dipstick or to point of overflow on engines without dipstick. See Figure 6.

Be sure oil fill cap/plug is tightened securely.

NOTES

DO NOT overfill oil filler. Doing so may result in oil carry-over to the air cleaner and equipment and cause malfunction or damage.

DO NOT allow oil level to fall below the “ADD” mark on dipstick. Doing so may result in equipment malfunction or damage.

B. Filling Oil Sump

1.Be sure engine is upright and level.

2.Unscrew oil fill cap dipstick from oil filler tube and wipe dipstick clean. See Figure 7.

3.Screw oil fill cap dipstick back into oil filler tube. Tighten securely.

4.Unscrew and remove oil fill cap dipstick from oil filler tube. Note oil level. If oil reading on dipstick is below “ADD” mark, slowly add oil to reach “FULL” level.

See Figure 6.

5.Screw oil fill cap dipstick back into oil filler tube. Tighten securely.

6.Wipe away any spilled oil.

NOTE

To change oil for engine, see "A. Checking and Changing Oil" instructions on page 13.

OV195XA, OV195EA specifications

The Tecumseh OV195XA and OV195EA engines are notable members of Tecumseh's extensive lineup of reliable and efficient power products. Designed primarily for outdoor power equipment, these engines cater to diverse applications including lawn mowers, generators, and other small machinery. Both models are characterized by their compact design, robust performance, and user-friendly features.

One of the standout features of the OV195XA and OV195EA is their powerful 195cc displacement, which delivers a significant amount of torque for heavy-duty applications. The engines are equipped with a reliable overhead valve (OHV) configuration, enabling better combustion efficiency and improved power output. This design not only contributes to higher performance but also leads to enhanced fuel economy, an essential aspect for users looking to maximize efficiency.

These engines also incorporate a lightweight aluminum die-cast crankcase, which reduces overall weight without compromising strength. This material choice provides durability while making the engines easier to handle and install. The dual-element air cleaner enhances the engines' filtration systems, ensuring cleaner air intake and prolonging engine life by minimizing wear and tear.

The Tecumseh OV195XA and OV195EA engines are engineered with a focus on ease of maintenance. They feature an integrated fuel tank, allowing for quick and convenient refueling. Additionally, the side-access oil drain simplifies oil changes, making it easier for operators to maintain the engines without requiring specialized tools.

Another important aspect of these engines is their low vibration and noise levels. Designed with advanced technology that minimizes both sound and vibration, the OV195XA and OV195EA provide a more comfortable user experience, especially during prolonged operation.

In terms of starting, both engines offer easy recoil start mechanisms, ensuring that users can quickly get to work without the hassle of complicated starting procedures.

Overall, the Tecumseh OV195XA and OV195EA engines represent a blend of performance, durability, and user-friendly design. Their innovative features make them suitable for a broad range of applications, ensuring that they can meet the demands of both professional landscapers and DIY enthusiasts alike. With a focus on efficiency and reliability, these engines continue to uphold Tecumseh's legacy as a trusted manufacturer in the small engine market.
