PROBLEM

SPOTS AND FILMING ON GLASSES AND FLATWARE

CLOUDINESS ON GLASSWARE

CHIPPING OF CHINA

BLACK OR GRAY MARKS ON DISHES

POSSIBLE CAUSE

Spotting can be caused by all these things:

Extremely hard water. ( See How To Choose and Use Detergent Section.)

Low inlet water temperature. (See How To Test Water Temperature Section)

Overloading the dishwasher.

Improper loading. (See Loading Section.)

Old or damp powder detergent.

Phosphate level in detergent too low. (See How to Choose and Use Detergent Section.)

Rinse agent dispenser empty. (See How To Use Rinse Agent Section.)

Too little detergent. (See How to Choose and Use Detergent Section.)

Local water conditions and personal preferences vary. Try several brands of detergents to find one that gives the best results for you. A liquid dishwasher detergent may help reduce filming.

To remove stubborn spots and film from glassware:

1.Remove all metal utensils from the dishwasher.

2.Do not add detergent.

3.Select NORMAL WASH (ON) cycle.

4.Start the dishwasher and allow to run for 18 to 22 tinutes. The dishwasher will now be in the main wash.

5.Then open the door and pour 2 cups (500 ml) of white vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher.

6.Close the door and allow to complete the cycle.

If vinegar rinse doesn’t work: Repeat as above, except use 1/4 cup (60 ml) of citric acid crystals instead of vinegar. (Most drugstores carry citric acid crystals. If yours doesn’t, call GE Factory Service.)

Using a vinegar or citric acid crystal rinse more than twice a month? Consider a home water softener.

If vinegar or citric acid crystal rinse doesn’t work, the cloudiness is “etching”. The film cannot be removed.

It can be prevented: Use less detergent if you have soft water. Wash glassware in the shortest cycle that will get them clean.

Water temperature entering dishwasher exceeds 150°F.

Rough handling can cause chipping. Load with care. Make sure glassware and china are secure and can’t jar loose. (See Loading Section.) Make sure tall glasses and stemware will clear the top of the tub when you push the rack into the dishwasher.

Always use the top rack for delicate items.

Aluminum utensils often leave marks when they rub against dishes. Remove marks with a mild abrasive cleanser.

HDA489 specifications

The Hotpoint HDA489 is a versatile and efficient dishwasher designed for modern households seeking performance combined with convenience. This appliance stands out in the crowded market of dishwashers with its array of features, advanced technologies, and user-friendly characteristics aimed at delivering exceptional cleaning results.

One of the key features of the Hotpoint HDA489 is its impressive cleaning performance. The dishwasher is equipped with multiple wash cycles tailored for different types of loads. From heavy-duty pots and pans to delicate glassware, the HDA489 has cycles designed to tackle every dishwashing challenge. The high-temperature wash cycle effectively sanitizes dishes, making it ideal for families with small children or for those who prioritize hygiene.

Energy efficiency is another highlight of the Hotpoint HDA489. With its ENERGY STAR certification, this model ensures that it consumes less water and electricity without compromising on performance. This not only saves money on utility bills but also contributes to a more sustainable household.

The HDA489 features a spacious interior with an adjustable rack system, allowing users to maximize their loading efficiency. The upper rack can be rearranged to accommodate larger items or tall glasses, while the lower rack is designed to hold larger dishes and pans securely. This flexibility ensures that every load is optimally loaded, enhancing cleaning effectiveness.

Another standout technology in the Hotpoint HDA489 is the soil sensor. This intelligent system assesses the level of dirtiness in the water and adjusts the wash cycle accordingly. By prolonging the wash for heavily soiled items and shortening it for lightly soiled dishes, the soil sensor optimizes energy and water use.

The dishwasher operates quietly, thanks to its advanced sound insulation, making it suitable for open-concept living spaces where noise levels can be a concern. With a noise level of around 55 decibels, the HDA489 ensures that household activities can continue uninterrupted while the dishwasher is running.

Additionally, the Hotpoint HDA489 is designed with user convenience in mind. Intuitive controls and a clear digital display make it easy to select cycles, start, pause, or customize settings as needed. The delay start feature also allows users to set the dishwasher to run at their convenience, further enhancing its usability.

In summary, the Hotpoint HDA489 offers a blend of effective cleaning, energy efficiency, and user-friendly design. With various wash cycles, intelligent technologies, and a spacious interior, it shines as a reliable dishwasher solution for modern kitchens.
