UL requirements

The following Underwriters Laboratories (UL) requirements pertain to the installation of the MDA into a rack.

1. Elevated operating ambient — If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment may be greater than room ambient. Therefore, consider installing the equipment in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature (Tma) specified by the manufacturer.

2. Reduced air flow — Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised.

3. Mechanical loading — Mounting of the equipment in the rack should be such that a hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven mechanical loading.

4. Circuit overloading — Consideration should be given to the connection of the equipment to the supply circuit and the effect that overloading of the circuits might have on overcurrent protection and supply wiring. Appropriate consideration of equipment nameplate ratings should be used when addressing this concern.

5. Reliable earthing (grounding) — Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should be maintained. Particular attention should be given to supply connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (such as the use of power strips).

Rack mounting instructions

NOn the non-VersaTools rack shelves, the MDA can mount in the front or the rear of the rack.

1.

Remove the feet from the bottom of the MDA if they are

already installed.

2.

Mount the MDA using two 4-40 x 3/16" screws in

opposite (diagonal) corners to secure the MDA to the shelf

(figure 3 on page 3).

3.

Install false faceplate(s) or other unit(s) to the rack shelf.

4.

Insert the shelf into the rack, aligning the holes in the shelf

with those of the rack.

5.

Secure the shelf to the rack using the supplied machine

screws (figure 4 on page 3).

Back of the rack mounting instructions

The MDA can be mounted to the rear of a rack using the Extron MBB 100 VersaTools back of the rack mounting kit (part #70-367-01) (figure 5). The kit allows the product to be vertically mounted to the front or rear rack supports and facing towards either the front or the rear of the rack.

Figure 5 — Attaching the back of the rack kit

1.

Remove feet from the bottom of the MDA if they are

installed.

2.

Remove two screws from one side of the unit. Retain the

screws for possible later reassembly without the bracket.

3.

Attach one bracket to the side of the unit (figure 5) using

the longer screws included in the kit.

4.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 on the other side of the unit.

5.

Mount the unit to the rack using the two included rack

screws (figure 6, on the next page). The MDA can be

vertically mounted facing in either direction.

MDA 4V SDI, MDA 4V HD-SDI specifications

Extron Electronics is a renowned provider of advanced AV system integration solutions. Among their standout products is the MDA 4V HD-SDI and MDA 4V SDI distribution amplifiers. These devices are designed to support high-quality video signal distribution for professional audio-visual applications, ensuring exceptional performance in a wide range of environments.

The MDA 4V HD-SDI and MDA 4V SDI amplifiers boast the ability to distribute multiple signals without degradation, maintaining the integrity and clarity of the video feed. Each model supports multiple input and output configurations, accommodating up to four separate channels. This is particularly beneficial in environments where several displays are used, such as broadcast studios, control rooms, and large venues.

One of the main features of the MDA 4V HD-SDI is its ability to handle HD-SDI signals up to 1.5 Gbps, allowing compatibility with various high-definition video formats. The MDA 4V SDI model, while optimized for standard-definition signals, also ensures a robust distribution system for legacy formats. Both units feature advanced equalization technology, which enhances signal integrity over longer distances, making them ideal for expansive setups.

Another significant characteristic of the MDA series is their built-in signal processing. This includes automatic monitoring of input and output signals, providing feedback on signal quality, and notifying operators of potential issues before they impact the AV experience. The amplifiers also include independent gain controls for each output channel, allowing for precise adjustments depending on the specific requirements of each display device.

The construction of these devices reflects Extron’s commitment to durability and reliability. They are housed in sturdy enclosures designed to withstand the rigors of professional use, with a compact form factor that facilitates easy installation. Additionally, all MDA 4V models are compatible with Extron's extensive range of control solutions, making them easier to integrate into existing AV systems.

In summary, the Extron MDA 4V HD-SDI and MDA 4V SDI distribution amplifiers offer a powerful solution for high-quality video distribution. With their exceptional signal handling capabilities, robust construction, and advanced equalization technology, these devices are an ideal choice for any professional AV environment seeking reliable and high-performance video distribution.
